Sorting allies in the party window
Hibou
When playing as a character who does a lot of ally clicking in the party window (healer, protector, etc.), I would really like to be able to sort my allies in the Party Window.
For example, when playing with my healing monk, when several party members are getting whacked at the same time, my reaction is often to cast my heal on the ally who has the less life left. However, this is often not the best idea. A warrior has a good armor and is less prone to die at the next hit than an elementalist with a weaker armor but a bit more health. When playing with other monks, it is also a priority to keep them alive.
In the thick of combat, I don't want to have to think about who should be my priority target for healing. I would like to be able to drag-&-drop the allies bar in the party window so I can order them the way I see fit. This way, I could put the allies that MUST be kept alive at the top. Another example would be when playing as a warrior, I would put the monks on top, so when they are attacked, I immediatly notice and can take action to rescue them.
Rearranging the party window should be enabled following the item identification system ("You have fought too recently to do that"). That way, the player could rearrange the party window only outside of combat, preventing accidently dragging a party member around during a fight.
A simple change, a great way to make players more effective.

Brilliant.
Was thinking of something similar. Perhaps instead of the item-id system, this can simply be reserved to outpost only.
I hope this is implemented as soon as possible.
This suggestion should be a sticky.

It is ratehr annoying. For our PvP groups in the tombs we disband wehn we're ready and re-invite in the order we want. This idea would save us alot of time and hassel. A good worthwhile suggestion.

Sure why not? as I don't play as a monk it won't effect me that way, but any way to let monks be more effective is a good thing. (within limits)

totally agree.
This may be a bit more complicated, but in 6 and 8 member parties I would also like to be able to cut my party window in half (2 windows) as an option. The party window, unlike EVERY other option on the GUI is restricted to verticle only. If you try to make it horizontal you end up with the same vertical size and just really really (really) long bars.

I agree with this. Would make monk's job a little easier

Being able to assign a keyboard shortcut to the various party slots would, I think, be even more efficient. The only problem with that is that there aren't (not to my knowledge) 8 keys in close proximity that haven't already been used up by other shortcuts (like inventory, etc.).
Edit: Hmm, the numpad maybe? Don't think those are used...

Yup yup, why not.

Ok, only positive comments so far... Does anybody see bad consequences this change could bring ?

Not really, to my thinking it would just remove an annoying facet of team play. On that same note I'd also like a function to scroll through the party list.. Something like a "Next party member" function that you can bind to a key

I've thought of this too, so I agree fully!!!
I play monk and before we'd GVG I'd always have to arrange the party. It was somewhat annoying, and people will not stand for it in mission groups. All they want to do is go go go. On the downside, I guess it would just take that much longer for people to get ready in town before a mission, but who like rushers anyways!

I tried the F1-F8 party member select, and found I hated it. It's so much easier for me to click on the char's name in the party bar, especially when I am always monitoring that bar for allies' health, condition, and/or hex status.

This idea is brilliant!

Yes, agree on that too.

if they had the ability to change that at will, it would throw us off rather badly
One and Two
On vent/ts in pvp. When someone dies, its "ressing two" or "ressing seven". If you can mix it up however you want....confusion.
Also, monks sometimes "split up" their heals, four and four. Imagine the confusion "I get bottom you get top" and someone ends up not having heals.
work out those and you get a /signed.

They should absolutely have this. But only let the party leader do it. Let the party leader arrange the party by dragging character names around.
As already stated, letting each player have a different order in his personal view would screw up Vent/TS big-time. That is why only the party leader should be able to do it.
Definitely saves a lot of time in PVP party making.
And also when you are going to Fissure or UW and then it randomizes your party order once you get in - what the heck?!
Not only does this screw up the ability to put your players in a cohesive arrangement, but also if a very horrible griefing player gets your party killed by playing stupidly in Fissure, he may be the leader after the party dies. Not the real player who spent all the time putting the party together.

much agreed, not sure If I like it to be party based (only group leader can arrange) or personal based but other then that the first poster covered all my other concerns. No more having to leave and rejoin before entering into missions sounds quite nice indeed.

I'd like to have the ability to arrange as I see fit, but with the TS/pvp problem, I think having at least the party leader able to organize it would be nice. Huzzah!

I thought the idea was only for towns and outposts, if not then /unsigned
And while we're at it, how about a ready button with a little light in it at the end of our health bars, the enter mission button only working when they have all been pushed? The light is so everyone can see when everyone else is or isn't ready. You know, like RTS online lobbies have had for 10 years . Come on Anet, you know it makes sense.

Wow, this is an old thread. I guess if Anet hasn't done it by now we'll never see it, but I think it's a great idea. Personally, I'd like an option (in towns or outposts only) to re-arrange my party list however I wish, but I can definitely see the drawback to TS players.
How about this? Allow each player to customize the list to their wishes UNLESS the party leader overrides the option. (Yeah, I know, I'm asking for too much)
I also love the idea of implementing a "ready" button for missions. I'm absolutely sick of mission leaders clicking "enter mission" even though I've said "wait a moment, swapping skills". One time, I had a leader warp into the mission while I have 3 empty slots on my bar, even though I was screaming, "STOP!!! WAIT!!!" through the entire countdown.

I customized my keys so that I can quickly select my allies, (QWER = ally 1, 2, 3, 4;ASDF = 5,6,7,8; ZXCV = 9,10,11,12) but it would still be nice to be able to put priority allies on top, or group by melee/spellcaster/monk.
