You know, instead of buying the game and ripping people of to help the poor, maybe you should spend all that money on helping poor the old-fashioned way, and not ripping poeple of.

An extreme example of this would be modern medical advances meant for good attained from the past Nazi experimentations with humans.

With all the time you spent farming gold, you could get a real job and donate those proceeds to charity, or better yet get a job at a charity or volunteering for some selfless program or another.

no i mean that say if i sold 100k on ebay i gave the person 100k and he pays me say 8-10 quid over ebay and i put the money to a charity if u see how that works
Sekkira
Yes we see how it works. But we also see a better way that cuts out the bullshit. If you want to help the poor, do it directly. Volenteer for the Salvation Army, donate money to charity, offer the people in the streets some money for breakfast or dinner when you go to or come back from work/school.
Arvydas
that applies to any game and how you use your money
appreciate your generosity.

Sir Skullcrasher
help the poor?? than give me some gold because 3k doesn't mean anything in this game. Its all about people with 100k or more, they're like the bill gate of the world inside GW!

No need to have a middle man. Instead of 'earning' money via what is essentially stealing (in accordance with the EULA), just give 5 pounds a month to cancer research, homes for battered women, orphanages, etc. Sheesh.

Yea, I dunno...I have to agree with the other posters, there's better ways to help out charaties.
Rather it would be better (game wise) to volunteer time to help out new players, answer questions, ect. It might be cool to organise a PvP tourney for charity though...if that's even possible. Get sponsorships from companies and the winning team gets to pick the charity of thier choice to donate to.

Is this tax deductible?

This just sounds like a real poor way to justify selling gold on ebay for personal gain. What charity, the help me by a steak for dinner charity?
I apologise for sounding overly harsh but as previous posters mentioned if you want to help a charity do so directly, not to mention selling in game assets for real life money is against the EULA and will get you banned.

Ok correct me if I am wrong but in the UK if you donate directly to a charity doesn't the government provide some kind of matching donation. Now on top of that in the US I would donate directly to a charity because then I get a tax write-off. If people were to just pay more money to a person selling an item they will never know if that money actually goes to what the person is saying it goes to as well. Not trying to shoot down a fundraising idea (hell my wife and I are fundraising now for the AIDS marathon so I am all for charity) but I can see why people wouldn't want to go with this...

I think that if you want to do something good for somebody else, or fool yourself into believing that you are helping, and you want to do it in a way you enjoy. Go for it. Get a whole bunch of your friends doing it too. That way when you get bored of it in 2 - 3 hours from the monotonous farming, you can have some gold to keep for yourself.
The problem isn't your idea, per se. It's the fact that there is little advantage to farming excessive amounts of gold that it would take to earn any real money for the poor, and in fact, the ebay gold sales hurt the game and only perpetuate the bots that run in our game. More ebay purchases only encourage new bot users to go for the quick buck and sell on ebay. Most exclusively for personal gain, instead of noble charities. Your heart may be in the right place, I think your plan is flawed.
While I agree with the responders for the most part, I'm not one to bag on another man's hustle.
