When you switch secondaries, skill costs should be tallied seperately.

Currently, skill costs are tallied in this fashion:

You pay more for each capture signet you purchase.

You pay more for each regular skill you purchase.

I suggest they be tallied in this fashion:

You pay more for each capture signet you purchase, max 1 plat.

You pay more for each skill you purchase, tallied seperately for each profession.

This way, if someone switches their secondary, they aren't dropping 600 or more gold on each new secondary skill.

While I like this idea, I think I know why ANet didn't do it this way. While they wanted it to be POSSIBLE to unlock all skills with one character, I think they didn't want a lot of people doing that. They want people in the zones, all over the map, at all different places. Making it expensive to unlock everything with one character encourages the creation of multiple characters. This ensures that there are more people active, in more areas of the world map at all times.

I think that the costs should stay the way they are, BUT, you should inherit any unlocked skills you've aquired for your secondary profession when you switch. Then it wouldn't be quite as expensive to switch if you already have played the profession, but it would still take some work to unlock those skills by paying for them, or by starting a new character from scratch.

Skills don't need to be prohibitively expensive in order to be difficult to acquire; in fact, acquiring them already requires a lot of time investment. You earn skill points slowly, even if you farm the UW for XP; slower, in fact, than you would earn them with a new character.

Therefore, the point of this reccomendation isn't to make unlocks easier. The point is to allow established RP characters the extended choice of expanding their repotoire without farming for extremely large amounts of gold. If I can afford the new secondary skills, then I'll have a reason to continue playing my PvE warrior. As of now, I've collected everything for my two professions, and have nothing left to do with him until I can afford the other secondary skills. Make this change, and all my complete RP characters will have a new reason to be played.
