Stupid question - but is there a way to log off one character, and then log on another without retyping in the password?
If not, I'm mostly curious for the reasonsing behind making me retype my PW everytime I want to switch to my alt. Not a big deal - it just intrigued me...

The game forces u to log out of one character, and log into another. So u have to sign-in and out of ur account. Not that big of a problem, assuming u rember ur ps :P.

AFAIK, there's not way of not completely logging out before you switch chars. I'm not sure for Anet's reasoning for it, but maybe it's just the way they (ended up?) structuring the code.
Another possible reason I can think of is that for every character, the server has to load all its information. To do that, the server has to confirm the user has a proper login. Anet doesn't want to keep an "instance" of the user's password floating around and so when you switch chars, the server no longer knows the password your using. So, you'll have to log in again so the server can confirm and then go ahead and load your other char. (hmm ... did that make sense?)

I think they answered it a while ago during the beta stage...I believe it's for security reasons...maybe for accounts? not 100% sure

Like I said, not a big deal - I was mostly just curious. Either I was missing something, or the devs had a reason.
Gosl's reasoning makes perfect sense to me - I'm filing that one away in my type A personality's "need to know" file. lol
