So obviously it takes longer to get from level 19 to 20 then it did to get from level 1 to 2....

All the people that have been putting time into the game, and building level 20 characters and then earning skill points....

When a future expansion comes out that will up the level cap, any idea how levels will be handled?

Will level a level 20 character who's earned 3 more levels jump to 23?
or will they still be at level 20 but with an xp gap as if they were actually level 20 or as if they were 23?

Would really suck if they don't make sure they don't penalize people who've been playing by not accounting for virtual levels gained after 20...
If not in actual levels... then at least by reseting the XP so it matches a level 20 character.

Ya understand what I'm trying to get at?

Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

My idiot Friend Plankton Fillari wanted me to post this in response to the above thread:

"I was told that when an actual Full Version Extension (CD-Rom For In Store Purchase) was released that the level 20 characters that had ascended will be able to move on to that world. The idea was that Once you ascended and moved on to the new world you can not go back to the old with that character. Basically that you level was restricted by game, meaning you can not pass level 20 in guild wars but in guild wars II (or whatever they decide to title it) you wouldn't be able to pass level 40. This would ensure that within each game everyone is on the same playing field. This information could be inaccurate by this is what I was told by a fanatic friend of mine and the Game store clerk I purchased Guild Wars From. There are only so many times you can do guild battle or re-do the whole story with a different character before it loses value. If the game will continue on in the manner I was informed that it would the game could potentially be played for a decade with 3 or 4 versions in which you could build a character across the span of an unlimited amount of games. It was this concept that made me want the game so bad in the first place. If the game will truly never under any circumstances allow a character to exceed level 20 then in my mind that takes half the value out of the game."

Just to add a little note...my friend sucks!

He did make a good point, each chapter 2, then 3, then etc keeps expanding the game greatly. Think of all the new players coming in on chapter 2 having twice as much content as we do now. More jobs, skills to unlock ><, more missions, more pvp styles. This game will keep getting better as time goes on.
