Color Drops
Titus Deathbrynger
Do colors even matter on drops? What I mean is this...
I often get items that drop (might be a gold) thats no better and somtimes worse than a blue/purple unidentified that ends up being something nice.
Is color just an "indicator" that says "hey this is probably better than the rest", but not necessarily.
I'm currently using a blue staff thats better than some gold drops I've gotten. Just curious what the rhyme and reason is behind it all.

from what i understand, well this is a fact gold is rarer then purple, purp is rarer then blue and blue is rarer then nothing, thats what gives the gold higher prices, rarity.
i think that gold also has higher salvagibility, thats not a word. then say blue or something but no its not gonna be any stronger then a blue one with the same stuff on it more valuable due to rarity
-The Educator, im signing everything like this cuz i want my rank to be that. i wish the admin would give me it

sometimes colors matter on drops. everytime i get a gold unident armor drop, it always turns out to be something really good. so far i've gotten 2 of these drops, once it was a superior vigor and the other time it was superior absorption. but for gold weapons or other items, it's usually a 80% that i will get something really good while the 20% it is something regular; like worser than a purple or blue. for example, 2 days ago i got a gold ebon composite bow with 14-26 dmg drop. that's all the stats on it. wouldn't you say this should've been a purple instead of gold? i do. it's not even max dmg for a gold weapon.

Hasn't it also been stated that "average" gold drops have lower req's than its counterparts....

A rare drop will generally have higher percentages on its bonuses, or have higher quality upgrades already in place. You'll only ever find a +5/-1 Vampiric Bowstring in a gold bow, for example.
Besides that? The only real difference is in the text color.

also is the gold drops more common on monsters with higher level and that you have to solo in order to get the drop? i know that purple drops sometime come out from weak monsters (like those ugly charrs) or from others. Rarely do i see a gold drops when i went on charrs hunting!

Related sooper-noober question:
I have two purple armors (from Charr), which when I identified "unlocked minor runes." Now, I know in order to try and get these I have to salvage them (with an expert kit for the best chance). However, one of these runes is for a monk which I obviously won't be using. Is it best to try and trade the armor with the rune in it or try to salvage the rune then trade?
Sorry if this is painfully noobish!

The best bet for most armors with minor runes is to sell the armor, with rune, to the merchant. The armor is likely worth more than the rune, unfortunately.
There isn't much of a player market for minor runes - they're too cheap at the trader for most people to even care.
