What's your expectation for your guild officer?

Just a simple question to all of you. Couple weeks before, I met recurit this one member, all he wants is to be an officer. He kept telling me that how good is him and he has beaten the game many times. I mean everything seems like a nice thing. But then when one of my other guild members need some helps on the quest from him. All he does is kept telling him that we don't need any people, just picked up some henchmen and do the mission. In the half way of the mission, the guild member died but he never resuz him. All he told the guild member that he can finish the quest without him. My goal of my guild is to help people out in their quests. What do you think about a guy that don't help people out and want to become an officer?

By the way, of course my members didn't like him at all. He carried with a bad reputation. I knew that he has been switched from guilds to guilds. Just trying to become an officer. Finally, he left my guild. What do you think? Have u met someone like this? and What kind of job duties do u expect to see from your officers?

Well, personally, I believe that the Officers should do everything they can to help the guild. Helping members, offering advice, recruiting members. Officers should respect every member and of course, the leader. They should get a long with everyone, so as not to cause problems. And of course, upon entering the guild, should not demand Officer status. They should prove they deserve it, by being both a loyal member, and helpful.

Well me being an officer myself, an officer must have leadership qualities. They must help guildies in need and show a positive outlook on things without becoming too over himself. If no one likes him don't even consider making that person an officier because it will only cause tension thus making you look bad for promoting him. Good luck in finding an officer

In my experience: the more someone pushes to be an officer, the worse of an officer they'd make.

yea, I agreed with you. Recently, I promot an officer from my guild. He's really nice and helpful. He finished the game once before and all he does now is to help other members out and try to collect rare gold items for them. He also created an character just for the member to shop for his inventory. He always gave me advices and told me that our guild should try to help people on their quest and bring them to your level. So that you have more people to co-operate with later in the game. He also gave me some ideas about having a training camp in our guild hall. So we can prepared for battles. It's nice to have him in our guild. Way BETTER than the one I was talking about earlier.

In AO I was president of a global 150 or so member guild. The thing you have to remember about AO is that they had several layers in their hierarchy so what I did worked better but it would still work here. What I did was two fold:

1. Create a series of quests or trials. Each level of the heirarch posed a higher trial or test. Basically the idea here was to prove that you knew the story of the game, you know the mechanics of the game, and most importantly you know your role in your profession and how to be a team player.

2. Each level of the hierarchy I had posted infomation on. So before you got promoted you knew how to get promoted as well as what the reponsibilities were of the title. For example because it was a fairly large and global guild the rank directly below me was regional, like VP of US, VP of Europe, etc. (we actually did it by time zone, this way they could plan events for thier time zone which was one of their responisibilties).

Granted this game is much different than AO, guilds are much smaller, and hierarchy much thinner, but I think these two principles could still be used. That way your officers have to go through trials and therefore the entire guild respects them more. Furthermore, because thier reponsibilties are known to all they know what to do as well as all the members know what to expect. It works very well you end up with a very quality guild of people who know how to have fun together.

As an officer, I would have to say to not only remove that persons status in the OP ... but to remove them from the guild. It only takes one bad seed to start an uncontrollable phenomona. Officers should pose leadership qualities and help when they are available. Regardless of who superman may be (thats what soloing is for) you never leave a guildmate dead unless you have no other choice. Its arrogant, assinine and pompous.

Take your time selecting/promoting officers. As we say at my guild ... we prefer to recruit 1 good member a month than 1 loose cannon a week. Test trials are a good way to know. Patience is undenyably the hardest thing to maintain when recruiting. But it could very well pay off.

I agree, and if you dont kick the bad seed fast he can take a lot of people with him especiially if hes an officer (kicking powers). Even if hes not though he can spread lies and start a mutany.

I agree with Stumpy. unlesss you know this person IRL and can go to his house and knock some sence into him I would drop Him like a HoT rock. I am a Guild Leader and I have never taken to kind of shit from our members let a lone any officers. My advice is before you promote anybody lay the ground rules. Example: In my Guild All Officers are expected to help all the other members if they can. Also Dropping out on a Mission will get you a warning once and Kicked the next time (the excption is Blackouts Power shorts ect,) The moral of the story is Police your own.

This is a post that My High Council Chairman made for the High Council members. I was really impressed by what he said and figure it might give you an ideal of what a true office is.

The reason I am posting this here, and not in a private channel. Is for accountability, and so that people that may be interested in the Guild can see that we are not the average guild, and that we care about our members. These are made public so that should you, I or we fail in upholding our own guildines other will hold us to them.

As an officer of ACE your responsibilities are greater than those of others. You are expected to set an example, for others to follow. I do not want our guild becoming some huge massive thing, that members are no longer people. I seek, and hope you do as well a higher ground. This game is a lot of fun, and I would like to make sure that everyone is having the most fun they can at whatever it is that they enjoy doing whether it be PvE or PvP.

1. I expect that as an officer that when you log on you should see if any Guildies need any assistance with quest/mission completion, skill cap or any other issues.

2. If a Guildie requests a few extra materials or a little gold to craft some new armor I expect that you will help them obtain said items. What is good for them is good for the guild. Do not worry you will not be exploited, because you will have other guild members helping you, should you need something. Of course the level of help provided to a member depends a lot on their loyalty. The more that is given to the Guild the more that will be given back.

3. If you find a nice bit of armor or a weapon, instead of running off to trade it right away. See if there is someone that could use it before you do. What makes you stronger makes me stronger.

4. Do not Grief. See the attached story for an example of griefing:

We only promote who show his/her commitment to the guild (e.g. recruiting, helping new members, or other method) and also a good pvpers. Bad attitude is not acceptable no matter it is an officer or members, we will kick them immediately if they behave badly no matter how good he is. We often do mass recruitment but we weed out bad picks without any hesitant.

However, helping guild members is not a MUST, especially in a big guilds with 100 ppl, there will be always someone who need help. We help or give advise if we can but we prefer the members to survive on their own as it will help build him/her up as a strong players not a whining baby who prefer to be fed everything.

Well, personally for me, I just have my friends as guild officers in my 50+ person guild. They are pretty good, all have beaten game, offer unneeded items to guildies, are active on our website and in the game, and are general good people. In fact, it was one of my officers who set up our vent server.

IDK, I say just be able to trust your guild officers. If you have a bad gut feeling, demote. Same thing with members. If they give me a bad feeling, I cut them no questions asked. (No lv 5 who I recruited from Pre Searing has the right to call me a noob when I tell him that pre-searing armor sucks).

Haha my guild is kinda a friend thing so my friends are all officers. But my officers help other guild members in need during RP and we are all pretty good team players. Thats what i look for in my officers.

I look for people that help out others when asked, people that put forth new ideas about how to do something, are always asking the rest of the guild thats online if they wanna group up and do something. Thats the kinda of people i want as officers. I find that anyone that asks to be an officer isn't going to make a good one. Never ever, they're the kind of person that wants power, and that ain't a good thing.

Well, your officers don't have to be the only ones to recruit. If your guild members wish to see your guild grow, they will probably tell people they party with about the guild and direct them to one of the officers or guild leader.

At present we have one High Council Member ( Officer ) per five members. This allows each Officer or HC to be able to play the game and enjoy playing instead of running around for everyone else like me , I do it cause I love the Guild and the group of poeple we are starting to form. We are at 25 strong and voting on a new High Council Postion. The HC vote on the HC members aswell the guild votes on the members to join. This allows everyone the feeling that help control the guild and in a way they do.
