if you ask me, the two factions are a little bit failed in concept...
luxons are supposed to solve problem with violence and are unspiritual, yet they live in nature and with animals, and their citys are of bright and different colors
the kurzicks are supposed to be spiritaly evolved, and into art and all that stuff... theyre also supposed to be treehugers... but their style is very aristocratic, they look like vampires, and they use necro stuff.... now lets see, just when did aristocratic necros spiritualy evolved, and when did they hug trees? also if they hug them, do they hug dead trees, cause i didnt notice much bloosomed nature in their area...
this two factions look to me like they were made up by somebody who has a medival or maybe a lil bit ancient roman perspective of the world:
"the old aristocrats are the only one who have any culture and art, and everyone that dont live by their ways are nothing else then savages, barbarians, etc)"
personaly i preffer concepts where spiritualy evolved people live together in unity with nature (yes with animals just like the luxons do), in a bright and colorfull environment (yep just like the luxons), and use their magic to heal and protect (etc)...
and the aristocratic society seeking power should use destructive magic (necro) (yes just like the kurzics) and live in a dark looking place (yep just like the kurzics too)....
just a thought... could write much more on the subject but i think i told enough to present my pov...
A little bit failed concept of the two factions

ok you have good points i did not notice that.

If I remember, Kurzicks are conservative and the status quo is fine by them, thus the dark gloomy, indeed aristocratic feel they have about them fits them well, especially living in a petrified forest, since nothing about that will ever change. Besides, they live in cathedrals, how more spiritual can you get? Spiritual doesn't mean you have to be like an ex-hippy, it could also mean that they are very religious.
Whereas the Luxons are more practical and commercially oriented and have a nomadic way of life, I can see using animals fitting perfectly into this, actually, as well as living on a sea, although turned into jade, also fits their restless spirit better.

Consider for a moment that these ironies could be intended commentary. Now your "failed concepts" is fasinating art. The Kurzicks really are a reflection of the stone forest in which they live. I'm going to lean towards inventive and brilliant. The fact that it challenges your world view is a success in my mind.
Blowing a concept off as "medeival" or "ancient" amuses me. Our enlightenment is only surpassed by our arrogance.

well they look nothing else then a mixture of ancient roman / necro / and chatolic style... doesent really have much to do with forrests, btw the whole storyline is failed too anyway...
youre supposed to go to a faction to help and unite them, but you wount do anything else the whole game then fight the other side on yours...
btw, cathedrals are not for spiritualy evolved people, but for braindead sheep :P

Right into "my way of thinking is better than yours"
A large portion of the world practice their version of "spirtual" in a very structured manner. Like Cathloisim, or Hindu peoples, Even Buddists of all types.
Yes "spiritual" ,to you, might mean "tree huggin druid hippy"
But I think in this context it means more "Religiously Structured" . As in a very old established religion that has become so entrentched in the culture that everyone is afraid to change *cough-puritan-America-cough*.
Where as the more "secular" and "matrialistic" nomads and traders. have a group of tribes that are very progressive in their cultures...
One side is always in motion and always changing free from ideals such as "religion". (Luxons)
The other is frozen in the ways , much as they are in their petrified forest. Beholen to the land and their Aristocracy (Kurzicks).
I think it is wonderful how everyone is already identifying with each faction in their own way....it means th devs did a great job.

I'd like to know why Germans(Kurzicks) are living in Cantha.
Sidra
I'm sort of happy that they're Germans. As a German... I can use a name in German and have it completely blend in to the Kurzick world, hehehe.

I think some of the temples could have been better.

Other than that though, I can't see what the concept is lacking. When you hear someone mention spiritual people, you think of harmonic forests and people living in harmony with nature, as you said. So why go mainstream? Would it make the game any better if they made Kurzick people live in harmonic forests and in perfect balance? Or would it make the concept any better? I personally find it more interresting when things aren't what you'd expect. This also shows spiritual doesn't instantly translate into harmonic. The feeling I get from these guys are that they are religious indeed, and that they care about their forest enough to not let Luxons take over it. They are afraid of change and Luxons invading the forest could very well mean change. (Just like everybody else said).
Luxons on the other hand are pretty fear-less. They don't mind sacrificing a few men to get their will done, and they won't let Kurzicks take their sea. Simply because in their terms of thinking; more land = more power. And they want to be powerful indeed.
I believe this is about what ANet intended the "races" to be and I'm actually impressed with the concept. It doesn't go mainstream, it gives you another view of things, and gives you the feeling those two nations once could have existed. Gj ANet.
