If you are getting that size from the add remove programs entry, don't trust it. I've had 50MB programs on my work computer report as taking up 5GB. My GW folder takes up 1.77GB
Mr D J
my data file takes up 1.7 gb and screnies 5 gb

1.68 GB here, i dont belive you can have 4gb 0n GW unless u have Loads of screenshots.
EternalTempest
1.6gb here. Most I've say was a screenshot of someone backing it up saying 2.3gb.
Have you been to every map / location since you've installed the game (in c1).
Anet sends you a "compressed" file and leaves it that way untill you need it then it decompress's it which makes the gw.dat file bigger.

Posting a screenshot of the details view of the actual folder might shed some light on it.

ok thats kinda of weird maybe you should ask support.
i have see posts about how much is the data in GW and they are all around 1.60 and 1.70gb but 4.gb look 2 much.
Don’t know if all that data is how much you have explored, cos I reinstalled my pc about 6 days ago and I dint go everywhere yet to load all the files but most people report around the same what it show to me.
This is my one.

When Guild Wars is installed (via retail CD, not sure about the downloaded client yet), it's about 1GB. The massive updates I believe are streamed or compressed greatly, or your computer just acquires a cache of sorts so that you can quickly access the actual updated content via ANet's servers.
Add/Remove programs says I have 1.08GB here. If I view the properties of GW's directory, about 2.02GB (aka, the size of the entire directory). But I have the SF Mini-Pack as well. Keep in mind any screenshots/DirectSong files you may have in the directory.

Don't worry its definitely not that big.
I only have an 8Gb hard drive
and my Guild Wars currently sits inside a 4Gb partition of that drive, of which other applications take up around 1 Gb or so.
EDIT :
Well its not that big for me, but its size does vary, the answer from the Support line could be interesting.

How would you have GW in your massive 4gb partition is his one is over 4gb?

i got 2.32gb in GW and im pretty sure ive been in every explorable area in tyria

Was j/k around a bit but I think it could do with the way in which GW "runs".
4Gb might be right because there are compressed files there. Maybe the OP has enough room on his PC for the GW application to "decide" not to compress any files for performance reasons. I've seen my GW.Dat file shoot up to 2.2 Gb sometimes and then back down to 1.7 Gb later. I find the size of GW.dat a bit mystifying myself as sometimes when I log in and files are downloaded when trying to zone to a city I find that GW.dat doesn't change at all?? The Support line might be able to shed more light on the file size.
