Is anyone else experiencing Guild Split?

What is Guild split? The reactions of guild members and/or officers where some want to choose one side and others want the other side and people will be leaving your guild because of it.
OR
Some guildies have friends in other guilds and they will choose the side they want and your members leave to join them.

I had the idea, waaaay back when these rumors of choice came out, that it would be a guild splitter. Is Factions taking perfectly content guilds and forcing a divide within them?

Being the only one who was enthusiastically involved in this weekend's events, I can safely say that my guild probably won't care, and that I will probably end up being the one who chooses for them, hehe. There is always the possibility of creating a sister guild(s), so that might not be a problem.

Any guild that gets split by this wasn't a truly solid guild anyway. You can still do stuff for the faction your guild sides against, you just can't help your guild that way.

Do we really know how Guild Alliances will effect the particular Factions yet?

I don't know about you, but I'm not planning on missing half the content by doing exclusively Luxon or Kurzick. I'll go through one side first, than the other (spending the Faction along the way as not to accrue any penalties from the opposing Faction...)

I have no intent of ever associating myself with people who are supportive of those "Luxons." Yeah, I'd leave my guild if the leaders and officers sided with those people.

The Kurzicks shall wipe the Luxons from the face of Cantha.

...umm... does... anyone know why we're fighting, anyway?

That's not an option for everyone. I have two accounts, too, and will do the same thing, but I'm really only in one guild, and miss the guild chat when I'm using the other account. I assume alliance guilds must all be tied to the same faction, so that's not a solution either.

P.S. Hey, Hulie!

Kurzick guy insulted some Luxon's mom. Turned out to be their ruler. Who knew?

We will probably hold a vote.

Besides it's not final, you can always change after a few months.

There was a lot of chat going on the guild channel about who is better.
majority liked Kurz and some went with luxon but I do not think anyone would leave.
We joke a lot in the guild but would not think people would leave.
Especially since dealing with traders would not be an issue depending on the guild status.
Its personal status, so once you are done getting quests and armor from one side you can go to the other and do the same there.

I wonder how they'll balance it? At first glance one would think that the game could become weighted heavily on one side or the other. And when guilds flip sides to experience the whole game the alliances they've made will have to be terminated. It is going to be interesting to see how it plays out. And will we see double agents?

Not only guilds will split, Players will go and join the strong alliances so they can get the benefits of the elite missions and rewards etc. Since not everyone will be able to enjoy those benefits from what I’ve read so far but who knows it all may change between now and April 28th.

/agree

If you really want to be the opposite side of your guild, no problem with that...

the only thing you can't do then is spend 5k faction to help your alliance standing

This is how I see it, offcourse nothing is certain yet

I think that balance will not be too big of a problem. Most of the PvP types will go with their guild for a while, either dominate or be dominated, switch sides, go back, wash rinse repeat.

Similar thing happend in SWG, with rebels vs imperials, you got a lot of people switching sides back and forth, but many people would feel like it wasn't as fun to dominate all the time and switch to the weaker side. Thats the main reason that people play games like this, for the challenge. Example: You go buy a game from the store, you play it till you get to that one point you can't beat. You try it for 4 days every day 6 times a day and cant pass the mission. You go to google, type in cheat codes, find the god mode cheat, pass the mission, turn it off then go to the next mission. Can't beat that one either, back to god mode, beat the mission, till you get to the point of always god mode, a week goes by, its funny to smash everything, then you finish, and never play again, because its boring. Most people don't have fun if there isn't a challenge, on the flip side, most people don't like getting smashed over and over and over, so it should balance out. A lot of inexperienced players will go with the popular faction that is winning, but the more PvP oriented players will challenge the odds for the fun, challenge and bragging rights.

Aye Aye to that!
Our guild was originally sided with the Kurzicks (mainly because alot of the guild was in the house zu helter as per the first quest in the log), we sided with them and played in that area until they started domimating, there is no fun in playing for a side that is already winning, there is no challenge, no motivation, gets boring and no reason to play anymore if you know that youll log in the battles and with a high probability of becoming the champions, no satisfaction of any complishment.

there was much debate about which side to choose but in the end we decided to join the Luxons, but not permanently- our idea is to fight for our chosen side for 6 months then at the end of that period to decide whether to renew our alliance with the current faction or change over, alot can happen to a guild in 6 months, and we felt for us this is the best solution to make everyone happy, so that their opinions and views are not ignored.

I agree that only the most instable guilds will split over this. The more stable ones will vote and join the side the majority prefers, I guess.

The other thing pointed out here is a lot more dangerous, especially for smaller guilds. Since it seems the only way to enter those "Elite Missions" will be to be in a strong alliance, it could easily lead to the best and most experienced players leaving smallish guilds to join larger/stronger ones. I expect a lot of smaller guilds to die because of that, but then again - that's probably what Anet intended anyway.

We are devided at the moment, but we have a poll up on our forum and whatever the outcome of it is, I know that the members will accept it.

My guild disagrees over sides, but they aren't going to split because of it. The majority of the pick-a-side content is PvE, and you want to experience all of that possible (but only once if it doesn't have replay value like Prophecies), which means that you'll probably end up getting 10k for both at one time or another. For PvP, it's mostly to no consequence. The things that have the potential to split a guild are town control and elite missions, so far as I can see.

We currently have a poll on the guild forum to help our guild have their say but rather than say "kurz or lux" we've added "wait till we see which side has more benefits" and for the glory hoggers (like there was during the preview event) "see which side wins the most" which currently has NO votes Our guild is strong and loyal but we have one or two members who i think after seeing the 12v12 and all the people shouting "go luxon" from the kurz side then leaving to let them win... I think they may want to join luxon purely for that... for the win

Anyways best solution is a poll. If you guild hasn't got a forum or anything I'm sure there's a site for votes or something to host your own poll that you can paste the link into the Guild Announcements.

I also started a poll on my guild forum. And you know what???Anyone hadn't voted yet. They're confused, they don't know which side to choose....of course they played the FPE but it was too short time to fully 'agree' with one of the side. So I gave them time to make up their mind until the 7 days after realeasing the Guild Wars Factions....

Its not like either side has any advantage over the other one..

I mean, if there were skills only usable by either side, then you can expect some people to have a good reason for beliving one is better than another...

and yes, we have no clear story as to why they are fighting, so why anyone would feel soo passionatly about any one side that they would split from the guild baffles me.

I think its pretty safe to say that once one side is thoroughly explored then the guild and alliance would switch.

It comes down to the goals of the alliance.

If the alliance is bent on holding a town and gaining access to the elite missions, then it is critical that all members of that alliance earn faction for one side only to commit to that ever-increasing race. Over the weekend, I was seeing the main Kurzick cities being held for 700-800 alliance faction points (350,000 to 400,000 individual account faction) and the Luxan capital went for about 1,300 faction points (650,000 individual faction). That's a lot of work and it will only go up once the real game is released and alliances get going. Also, don't forget that towns are awarded to the alliances that win the most in the alliance battles, so it's a heck of a lot of farming & successful pvp that are important to that goal.

For other alliances, the choice is pretty much moot as the actual exploration and completion of quests is not locked by the choice of sides.

Regarding the guild split... I'm not surprised by it and expect many guilds to see mass changes in rosters as the factions become solidified.

of course everyone should concentrate on one side... but what happens once they have HAD control of a place and explored these elite missions completly... they are going to want to then gain control and try the other missions out...

So again, why would you restrict yourself to only 50% of the content?.. if an alliance CAN control one side then there is no reason why they wont want to get the other sides content also.

so, no.. members who split from their guild to join another guild because of faction loyalty are just idiots who are not thinking logically about it and are probably a complete waste of space anyway.

I really cant see why any one person, guild or alliance would ever WANT to be permenantly allied with one faction..... that would be just the same as saying Im only EVER going to play with the skills from 4 out of the 8 professions!
