What is up with Ranger Pets? LV3?

I just made a ranger and manged to get a tiger for a pet; pretty cool. The uncool thing is that he spawns LV3 and is of no use. The assasin at the bridge to Cantha killed it in less than 2 seconds. Is beast mastery obsolete?

All pets have to be levelled up. The only pets in the core game that start higher than level 5 are the Black Widows, which you have to go to a very challenging zone and do a quest to get, and supposedly one level 15 wolf somewhere in the Southern Shiverpeaks.

well first off since its just lvl three in an area of lvl 20-20+ it will die in a heartbeat. but that is the only way to get it to lvl up. it will still get xp even when it dies so don't worry. also as it gets up in lvl you'll need to put attrib pts into beast mastery if that is the rout you wanna take into becomming a beastmaster. hope that helps you out some.

Thanks for the info. Would have been nice if they could have accelerated the pets level as well.

Go get the Black Moa. Instant level 20 pet, and it looks awesome.

During the preview event, numerous level 15 elder/hearty/dire pets were available in various locations.

Dralspire, I saw those numerous pets there... but even with a good running build I didn't have a hope of getting to them in time before the Yeti beastmasters tamed them. I have a feeling they're not there to be tamed by players for easy use in the beta, but rather so those Yetis can use their skill bar. Which kills me too, because I really wanted that Dire Tiger...

Hm, I just respawned a couple times and picked up a DIRE tiger without problems. I agree, though, that their availability might just have been a preview feature.
