How do I LVL up a new Ranger pet fast?

Hi all. I just changed my secondary profession to Ranger, so now I have a new pet. A bear named, Chewie. Of course he's only lvl 5 so I'm wondering if there is a quick way to Lvl him up. If I take him to an area with High Lvl enemies and he dies will he still gain XP while dead? If I take him to a place where I gain no XP off the enemies, is he still gaining XP? Do Scrolls apply to pets? Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Scrolls dont help, atleast my tests showed.

They do gain Exp dead.

BEST way...Troll Farm.

Second best, until lvl15 (the pet that is), is Minotaur farming (at ice tooth).

There is only one way to level up your pet.
FIGHT!
Use your best solo build, or kill monsters in any other way.
Pets do gain experience when they are dead.
Scrolls do NOT apply to pets.

I appreciate your interest in pets, and hope that your experience with them will be positive.

For levels 5-12 or so I used the Mergoyles outside Gates of Kryta. Very easy to get your pet the Aggressive prefix too if that's what you want.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. My bear has gone from Lvl 5 to 15 in about 2 hours of soloing outside Kryta. Thanks again.

for dire training I use hellhounds (level 16)
gates of kryta mission, take the old backdoor route (via oink)

kill the lone hellhound to spawn loads more, lure them up in small groups using judges insight on your pet.
yeah I know it's not proper holy damage but still 20% ap and hellhounds use frenzy.
