One is core, one isn't.
Also, to provide new options to players, and to reduce the usage of everyone and their mom using Echo.
It's said they'd like to model their skills after MtG, so that should give some insight to the main idea...

If you are getting the descriptions off of a website, it may be wrong. There are a couple of Ritualist skills in the skill listing here on Guru that are clearly copied from a different ritualist skill (see Pain for a prime example; as the description doesn't even remotely fit).

No, I got it right off the priest of balthazar skill list, but it does make sense that they would make a non-core and core of the same skill.

They made a few clones for each profession.
Ranger:Sundering Shot=Penetrating Shot
Warrior:Silverwing slash=Galrath Slash
Monk:Forgot the name=Divine Healing
etc..i think it was 5 clones for each profession.

I honestly haven't seen anyone use Echo for about 3 months. Have I been missing something?
