Do you think that this will be... the entire Factions Map?

Don't get me wrong, I’m loving what I see so far. The areas are extremely detailed and beautiful and also vast. But I have to say, If this is the entire map I will definitely be disappointed. I’m slightly concerned because this late in the beta we usually see allot more content. And so far there only seems to be only 4 story missions in the game so far.

Do you think that this game is just going to be mostly a small PVP expansion instead of a PVE centered game with a PVP after-game? We were originally promised a game with a scope comparable to the original. I just really hope they don’t disappoint. Im definately looking forward to plenty of more story based missions and i really hope that there are more, I enjoy PVP very much as well but I need my PVE.

Also is it confirmed that were going to start at level 20?

We will be starting at level 1, Factions will have it's own "Pre-Searing" we can also start at the Marketplace with out Ascended characters.
The map will probably be bigger, since this was just a preview.

No, they don't open up the whole game during the beta weekends (at least they didn't in the past). They pick an interesting (to them) area and run it for a certain level (with appropriate modifications). If you explore everything you'll notice there are several portals that show up but are blocked off. I believe it's the correct world map, but as you can tell, we can only access parts of it.

Not to mention any areas similar to UW/FoW/SF don't show up on the map, and you can bet there will be a few areas underground.

On the backstage event map screenshots/pictures you can see a lot of outposts in the big city (where the marketplace is), now all you got was marketplace

Also Fort Aspenwhatever and Jade Quarry NPCs spoke of pretty wierd things, about Shiro, and losing some key items required to defeat Shiro. And those places were accessible before doing the PvE missions, so I'd guess there'll be some changes to various places, atleast continuity storywise suffered because of the current setting.

Thenagain, the was continuity prob with Ch1 already, Druid's Outlook had the quest that skipped one mission, making Shining Blade appear friends without an explanation since the quest made you skip the mission explaining it.

Well, it said on Gamespot there was a place called the Undercity (and no, I'm not confusing it with WoW, even if the Undead Capital is called the same thing). The name "Undercity" sorta makes me think of something UNDER something else. Perhaps underground? And if so, there'll be a whole city which we can't see. That sounds like it could possibly rock...

It's not about the size of the map really, it's the content. I mean in Tyria everything is really spaced out and most places you'll probably visit once or twice and never go there again. Cantha may be smaller but it should have a very nice content to size ratio.

pre-searing [prob will be named difffent] maybe the events that lead up before the start of the war, and it will have it owns map and not merged with the current map (hence the word "PRE")
So if such a thing was to happen, it would be the same as the "pre-searing" in the original campaign which also had its own map (even though its still a derivitive of the master map).

This is the map but its not 100% open.
And we will start at level 1.
I saw a preview map with cities at the islands on the west of the area we were in.
You can also see all the towns south of the Marketplace.

This doesn't necessarily have to be true. We know the pre-searing of Factions is to be a monestary to train in, and you'll notice on the map there's a big Island completely off by itself... So long as they don't let you back in after you've left, the pre-sear area could be anywhere on our current map. We know, however, that the dense cityscape is Cantha itself, the forest is Kurzick's territory, and the Jade Sea is Luxon's. That leaves only the little islands off to the side.

If you look at the link I posted, then you would notice that there are cities in that island as well as the big land mass.
So I think the island is available as part of the main game.

So I think pre would still be the same as its done with Ch1, it would have a separate map on its own.

I think it's official that the actual "map" is about 2/3rds the size of the Tyrian one. However, where in Tyria there's a lot of places that are simply not included in game, in Canthia is much more densely packed.

Personally, what I'm concerned about is the amount of fun Lvl 20 content there is, that makes me want to play it over and over. I found tons of that in the preview alone. Because everything up to lvl 20 is kinda wasted when you hit the end. It might as well not exist.

You never really know until it really comes out. However, if it is true that The Marketplace will be a gathering place for Ascended Tyrians to gather in, and give themselves a more Eastern Appearance, then I'm in. Remember when we did all the beta events prior the release of The Flameseeker Prophecies? Well, we never really knew the game's full content until we started exploring, questing, and going through the missions.

Cantha looks very promising.

Nope, they said that once you 'complete' presearing, you get to MarketPlace. My guess is that the presearing will be done on the small islands on the west side of the map

it has been officially announced in interviews that at least 80 %of the total new content is ascended level 20 suitable.

which i think is quite a bit.

I'd also like to remind people that, at least on Luxon side, the mission areas themselves doubled as explorable areas after you'd done the misison. That was completely unheard of in Prophecies.

I imagine that we will get osee a lot more content once the official date comes around. I think that they will stuff the map a bit more, especially around the Marketplace, but until than this is just idle speculation.

I think instead of "Pre-Searing", the name of the tutorial level will be called "Pre-Harvest".

For those of you who've read, AND LOVE, the story that Factions is going through, (my wife likes it more than Prophesies ;_, then this is going to be HAWT...

yes, i did some missions, some wandering myself on the freebee trial, and i assumed (though assumpion is the Mother of all feck-ups lol_

that theres a lot more of the area between the marketplace and the PnogMei valley, simply cause theres a HUGE chunk of cityblocks between them..
as to the Aflicted, did anyone go down the sewerage outlet area by the citywall?
i did, and those things were NASTY ^^..there was a sewagepipe outlet type passage, but cause it was BetaTest type. they had routed it to the marketplace...

Personally, i hope their version of PreSear isnt one way, like Prophesies was....theres a large community of non-leavers in pre-sear, and though it makes sence with the storyline in GW:P to not be able to go back (since oyu would be time-traveling lol) it makes sence to be able to pop back if you wanted if it was just an island or something....then you could nip back to help a friend (no nesicarily *twinksing* a friend) and guide them thru the training procedure without having to make a new char all the time....
*just add some code that will not let you trade non training area items with those under lvl 20*

i never heard mention of the undercity, but it makes sence...if a city gets THAT big, especially in a fantasy setting, it always has an underground section...be it sewers that the local cut throats and thieves hang out in, or that the poor and unwanted end up getting pushed into..if your city wants to look clean and inviting and Safe and *insert various candidate spiel here*, you naturally want the poor, smelly, ignorant and itinnerant slum dewllers shoved out...
think DownBelow and Brown section ^^ full of rag-clothed folks with no credits to get home lol

not to mention how they can make areas that are actually aboveground look and Feel like they are underground

once you reach the harvest temple and join forces with each other the game is approaching a climax. so Harvest Temple is something along the lines of Thunder Head Keep... in the position for the plot line from chapter 1. expect anywhere from 4 to 6 more map points until final battle sequence which is looking like it will go south and bend to the west towards that island south of the monastery area (chapter 2 pre-searing like territory). so in a since you will go FULL circle in Factions... Ending very close to where you begin. I have screen shots of the full area taken and I will prob work on putting them together tonight... I will also add in a few placements I know are there but did not have access to yet... just for reference.. I'll post something on this later for sure...

that being said Cavalon and House were more like Droknars in line for the plot sequence. especially with the 1.5k armor being there... So there is alot in the city, and the monastary to discover when we go live. what we played this weekend will be later in the game... About the middle I would say... Nice thinking Anet... keeps everything fresh even once we go live...

And interesting... that map is quite different from the ones taken from the actual event. Talking about the direction and course of the red & blue lines. I'm assuming that this one was taken during the backstage pass but I don't think some of this was released to us in this Preview Event.

This is a very small part of the map. They didnt even have Seitung Harbor...which is the main town like LA.

The map will probably cover the whole land mass...and part of that water could be part of the map too.

There will be a lot more...They cant give away everything....

Remember, Pre-Searing is a time, not a place, therefor going back to such is impossible in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, the equivalent is a place rather than time.

we had access to everything on that map this time. it was just not very easy to get to as in past betas as they actually had creatures in the maps this time. lol remember running down the falls in the original beta. there was nothing down there.... The 10,000 faction requirement on the Eternal Grove and the Nursery, seemed like it limited the number of people that got in there till the last day. I had a hard time finding people to play with on Friday night when I got into Grove, so I switched over to Luxon to try out that area.... And by the time I got to the nursery there were people there to play with again... Same on Grove by that point... Then the Outcast / Afflicted areas on both sides opened the game up even more. I liked the way they did it with this event. stretched out the experience a little I thought. got a few more people playing alliance battles, both with regular characters and with faction builds... And it seemed like the quests were much more developed this time around for being a beta event. I guess being a preview event would be a more appropriate term this time as there was very little buggy in the system... advantages of building on a proven engine I guess...

I was disappointed in not being able to see the unwaking waters.. lol but that was just me. That teaser was just too much... and then popped back to your beginning town. AHHHH. lol I did it several times trying to see if faction lines were the problem or if it was purposly left out.. (Which it was) that being a key event for the next phase of the story it seems... But still I thoroughly enjoyed everything in the preview. I can see my guild and allied guilds spending a lot of time in the 12vs12 alliance battles... Here's to hoping for observer mode for those battles!!!!!
