Anoying game freeze
Prince Karnn
Hi,
My game keeps on freezing, it freezes everytime i play, it just depends on how long it will take. Sometimes i can have about and hour of playing, but other times it will be like 3 mins after loading it up.
My pc specs are:
1024 mb
3.0 ghz
Windows XP SP2
nvidia geforce fx 5500
80 gig HD || 33 gig free
I have got the most recent drivers for my gfx card and i just finished anti virus / spyware scans and i have nothing.
I have re-installed the game about 3 times and i dl the game client incase its my game discs, but nothing helps.
I used to play the game alot, and it never happened, but since i started playing again, its been happening all the time, for about 1 month now.
Ohh, none of my other games freeze (css, bf2, hl2), all high requirment games but only GW does it.
Thanks in advance,
Dave
EDIT: I 'de-dusted' my comp, but it still doesnt work. im sure i have done everything, but nothing has happened

Uh oh, soo i dont think is temp problem since you play other games normaly ... so im guessing its some driver problem lates drivers arent always the best solution ... maybe try older drivers. (i use 81.98 and i dont have any problems with them)

I've been getting these issues too.
I've been playing gw regularly and the freezes began sometime around the first download for factions. Perhaps new sound stuff?
Its only on gw, its abouta 10 sec freeze (once every 50 mins?) and its only on my 1.7gig machine. Game settings dont affect it, and it was fine before then. No driver changes in the meantime (before freeze started) driver update doesnt help.

well tnx anyway
i am fresh out of idears now. its not overheating, its not cloged up with dust...the last thing i can try is the old drivers idear, after that if it doesnt work, i am going to stop playing. Its not good for my pc, having to restart it all the time

I've got the same problem too, sometimes i'll get a graphical glitch just before the game freezes for a moment.
Also it only happens with guild wars.
My PC specs are:
1.4ghz pentium 4
512MB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 2MX
DirectX 9.0c (although GW says i have DirectX 8 installed, but i installed 9.0c from the GW disk)
Also, the GW support is down at the moment
Anyways, this problem started happening with the newest update (version 16.555, hit F11 ingame and the version will be at the bottom left of the options window).

I don't think it has anything to do with my graphics card though, i've had the game for 8 months and this is the first time it's randomly froze.
Prince Karnn
i was on guild wars support, and they basicly dont hav a clue just like us. i am wateing for an other email, but im not holding my breath.
if it does get it fixed, i will post it here ok.

we i had the same githc with my grafic card and now i have wasted the Nvidea FX 5500 but this is my case im not sure how do the cards react in some computers.
Anet does not have a clue on how to fixe things they are just lazy support.

I've found that playing the game in windowed mode instead of full screen makes things better, i've not experienced any freezes yet.
So, hopefully this is a temporary solution for everyone

the update notes said Guild Wars now uses DirectX 9 if you have it. maybe that is causing new problems for your computer. have you tried running Guild Wars with "gw.exe -dx8" that will tell it to use DirectX 8 instead. Maybe this will work better and give some hint as to what the problem is.

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars customer support team. Unfortunately, as we have stated previously, due to your system specifications we can not offer support for this issue. We recommend searching the various fan sites, forums and articles on the internet, where you should be able to find an answer / solution to your query. You can find a list of forums and fansites at the following link: http://www.guildwars.com/community/default.html#forums The online manual is available here: http://www.guildwars.com/manual/default.html Please feel free to contact the support team again if you encounter any other problems. Kind regards. |
Anyways, could anyone who has this problem and has a PC that meets their requirements send a message to their tech support and post any solutions that may be of some use?

I had exactly the same freezing problem, it improved considerably when i set the speed of my RAM down from 400 to 333 in the BIOS - can't do any harm to try.
Numa Pompilius
To the OP: You've got a CPU or RAM overheating problem. Seriously. The only other alternatives are that you have an insufficient power supply or faulty RAM capsule; if it was the graphics card overheating you should see graphical glitches before everything locked up.
Have you tried running your computer 'open', like another poster suggested? If that makes the problems go away, you need to get better ventilation of your computers case.
What makes you sure you do NOT have an overheating problem?

Server's back up, and there's been a small update too.. but it still freezes for me.
Looks like i can't play anymore..
*edit*
Just got the BSOD for the first time ever.. Only ever happens on GW, no other games.
*edit again*
Re-installed GW, things have gone worse.. I'm pissed off.. Don't understand why i can't get support for a game i payed £30 for!

To Numa Pompilius:
i am sure its not overheating cos i have played the game for 7 months without this happening. Ohh and i have tried playing with the case off.

When you start your computer press delete repeatedly to enter your bios set up. Select 'advanced bios features' from the options then alter the sdram frequency from 400 to 333, save the changes then exit setup. Hope this helps.
