Post your report of what you liked or disliked about the FPE weekend:

Liked:
-Scenery, vibrant, new, Cathan plains remind me of pre-searing, it felt good.

-12 v 12 set up, fine balence between organization and the chaos of battle, liked having maps where healers were not "nessessary" to win.

-Liked the New Armors and Skills, these armors look like they were made to survive in.

-Difficulty, mobs are smarter and cause pressure damage, also tougher in stats, good mob mixing prevents much soloing. Missions are crazy hard/impossible with henchmen, need humans.

-Cool new items, trinkets, I liked both the new weapons/offhands, and the mob drops. The stuff they drop looks good in your inventory, Jade Braclets and Black Pearls ftw.

-Change in prejudices, now we're hating Luxons or Kurzicks rather then races or ethnicities, it's better this way.

-Monsters, My favorites were the Island Guardians, Naga, Dragons and Juggernauts. But they all are cool.

Disliked:
-Preview skills available, I'm sorry, but those were some of the most horrible skills to give to us to start with, a lot of them didn't even work well together.

-Lack of Skill points, at lvl 20, even with quests you'd be lucky to get 2-3 new skills for your line-up

-Unfair Guild Hall access, letting PvP chars in from a Guild Hall upset the balence in PVP, they had better gear, and better skills available to them, and not everyone has a Guild Hall and a guild of 6 members is not going to buy one for a preview event.

-Alliance Control, It looks very likely that the top Alliances will get control of "elite" missions and that Smaller Alliances will be excluded unless they work day and night to keep up. If this is not the case, Gaile please correct me. (Only Gaile)

-Spies, players from an opposing faction who joined 12v12 for the purpose of quitting your team or dying to give the enemy more points/corpses. This needs to be a punishable offense since a lot is riding on Allaince Battles.

-Quiters, not A.Nets fault, but there needs to be a penalty for those quitting because they want to. But, the penalty must NOT include dissconnections (err=7) I don't want to be punished for having dial up.

- Loading times, I was very dismayed with the excessive loading screens, yes I'm on dialup, but A.Net knew it had dial-up users, they should have made a packet available sooner so we could start dowloading. I wasted almost a full day in screens.

Suggestions:
-Spies: In game Moderators. I'm not sure what the penalty should be, because then you'd have people pretending to be spies to get one side in trouble.

-Quitters: For a non-err=7 quit, penalty should be Expulsion from the Alliance Battles for 2 hours and a fine of 500 Faction.

-Elite Missions: Frankly, Elite Missions should belong to the Faction as a whole, because one single Alliance isn't winning (or losing) the war for their side. Many people are putting in effort, so why should smaller Alliances be punished because they don't want to/cant get bigger? That's my opinion. But IF you insist on making it that way, please have the NPCs in competitive missions drop good sized quantites of gold (to be shared with the party). Just gold no items, so those of us exculuded by an elitist PVP favored system from the fruits of our labors can at least get a little compensation.

-Assassin Primary, once again 75 MAX AL PLEASE. Right now all their good for is kamikazi attacks.

At start I was kinda disappointed. I started running the Luxon quests, and did all available quests... And Befriend Luxons quest required 10,000 luxon faction. The quest given by the NPCs in tows didn't yield enough, nor did doing the outdoor NPC quests, so only way to continue was doing the outdoor quests over and over again (I think I did the Arena battle-quest ~6 times and the Supplymaster quest twice)

Then reached the Hatchery mission. Was hard, until we got some human peeps to run around with to toss the canisters in right places. Had a full day break after few tries, disappointed a lot. Just logged in to see later, and got a team and did it. Completed the Luxon side and hopped over to Kurzicks.

Kurzicks had more than enough of the quest, I think doing them all yields something like 20k faction easy, plus the outdoor quests. Having 10k faction with Luxon and Kurzick makes them both hate you. Even if you did the befriend quest, annoying. Hope they fix it.

But in the end, I really liked it. The Luxon mission cinematics after completion were really interesting and pulled me in, can't wait to complete the PvE campaign.

New focus items were pretty nifty too, like the Paper Fan I found. Not good mods, but it looked pretty nice. Social trinket items 4tw. And the Scythe, one nice looking axe o0

What I liked:
- Area design... marvelous (both the Luxon and the Kurzick side)!
- difficulty level of PvE seems to be much higher than with Chapter 1. *woot*
- new armor, faces etc.
- Ritualist class
- Hatchery mission (Turtles FTW)
- both PvE and PvP can contribute to alliance success
- Male assassin's robot dance
- some of the quests were really nicely done
- a lot of the new skills were quite nicely done, too

What I did not like:
- I have not yet found out why Assassin would be a good choice for a _primary_ profession (seems to be nice as secondary, though)
- skill selection for the event seemed to be funny. It was quite hard to get a working skillbar together.
- RA type 12x12 arena. *brrrr.. leavers*
- the anorexic design of the Assassins (everytime I look at one, I want to donate them something to eat); also the way they run is STILL retarded.
- having to learn what dozens of new skills do - it will not exactly make playing counter-classes such as Mesmers or interrupt Rangers any easier (*shudders when thinking about having to learn 200 new skills every 6 months*).
- duplicate skills.

In regard to the final release:
- Guild alliances are the best idea since sliced bread. Best improvement to GW so far.
- I really hope I can still do Kurzick quests and buy Kurzick armor when my guild/alliance is aligned to Luxon and vice versa (that's actually a big issue in my guild right now since some favor Kurzick and some Luxon).
- I also really hope there will be a way to redesign our characters' appearence (some of the new faces look DAMN good)
- We couldn't really see the true implications in the event weekend, but: I am still wary of the "control towns and get exclusive areas" thing. I am not sure I am going to like that. As a matter of fact I am sure I am NOT going to like it.
- The ability to give an alliance a NAME would be nice, too.
- ... and don't forget about the storage issue, ok!

Final score for Factions so far: 7.5/10

This is my fear. I was hoping that smaller guilds would either be allowed access to elite missions simply because of their ties to their political standing (IE: I'm a Luxon, soooo.. ) or would simply be able to provide an offering of faction for access to the elite mission.

Besides that..

1) I disliked the starting skillset.
2) I disliked I had no skill points to alter my skillset.

.. and besides that, HOMG R0XX0R.

Ah this is more like it, nice and neatly laid out and clear to read...

sorry to original poster but...that was just a complete mess that I didnt want the eye strain to read.

but to this one I would reply,

Disappointed in the assasin?..hmm.. maybe, in what context?..pvp pve?.. I spent hours trying lots of different combinations and had good fun with it...

although I was expecting the assasin to be a let down, I was the opposite, I thought it much better than expected... maybe give it some more time before I decide... yea, maybe in PvP if found them a bit weak, but we'll see.

Female rit....oooh man... Id just calmed down from the fem ele's.. looks like my warrior will be going for oversized armour in the pants department pls

What I liked:

-> Better Graphics then the first, more detailed (also DirectX9 instead of
DirectX8
-> Giant Turtles
-> Vibrant Colors and scenery (Luxon side)
-> Differing Pets and Armor depending on alliance
-> New Creatures and Baddies to fight
-> Jade Sea
-> New Siege based PVP missions!
-> Turtles with fricckken cannons strapped to there back..
-> How Well minions worked on the new allience PVP maps..

-> New Skills! Wonderfull new skills all around
-> Flesh Golum! This adds a level 26 or 27 minion to the Minion master side! It makes a wonderfull tank in PVE . Plus there is a new vampiric minions and minion master armor!

What I didnt like:
-> How the Kurikz were supposed to be the good guys! That really bothered me..
-> How Hot Topicesque the Kurikz are stylized
-> Kurikz forest
-> freekin dredge monsters.
-> lack of skill points
-> lack of money
-> how we have to wait a month now

Other:
I cant belive how strongly people have made alliences already, I was on the Kurikz side with a charecter called "Lux Turtlehugger" playfully trash talking the Kurikz and you should have seen the responces i got lol.. And i cant belive that people are cheating and sabatoging the other side already! Its been what 2 or 3 days of play now? Its really quite an easy way to fix this problem.. I say if your status goes into attack mode before the countdown timer goes off you get kicked from the server, It should be easy enough to find out who started the aggro..

I Finished the Kurziick side of the map, and here's my review!

Likes:
- Graphics + Scenery, far superior to chapter 1!
- Like the addition of Henchmen of other races (I Love Sliverwing, just wish he was a kurzick
- Harder Mobs, much smarter and lots of patrols
- 12v12 pvp, i LOVED it
- Black Moa Bird..........my new best friend (i didn't need Comfort animal when questing^^)
- The Story, i wanna learn more ^^
- Assassin, i played as prim 1 all weekend, yes at start was hard, but you just need to know how to work the skills!
-Some new skills look like they can work well in alot of builds

Dislikes:
- Getting skill points.
- Starting skills
- The Afflicted, very hard!
- LEAVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Luxon Spies)
- the Henchmen AI need to be sorted out!
- not being able to talk to Luxon merchents (though i deserve it for killing Luxons XD)

Points:
- game needs an 12v12 balance, teams can win too easy!
- The new more powerful MM is gonna cripple the game!
- Ritualist needs bigger breasts and a rounder ass

Ok, maybe even "disappointed" may be a little strong. I don't like the the way the females look. I understand the concept behind it, but I just don't like it. The skills felt alkward to me, almost clunky. I know I'm not describing it well and I apologize. I'm still working on my first cup of coffee. I actually had more fun with the R/A I made. Don't get me wrong. I haven't written off the Assassins. I just want more time to work with her. Yeah, I'm a slow learner.

You're not the only ones who think this is a problem, here is the topic about it from my guild, and we're not sure who to talk to or where to turn to with these concerns either.

overall i tried both side first before i choose sides.
i had a hard time getting to fort from house on the kuz side.
i had to run thru.
were the lux i had no problem, it was too easy.

only glitch i found was in house ruins when the walls came down
the bots hences got stuck in the rocks.

i found kuz side very underworld.
and lux side very ascalon start up.

i thought the city were really well done but when u left them the quality
droped alot. tall hills become walls or open spaces no textures become seas.

as a ele in pvp i got ran over with packs of assassins and then necro made
minons so it wasnt fun experience and everyone one stood on spawn spots
so that sucked. i saw zero monks out there in pvp.

gvg was different thou characters added dynamics to the game.

i would say 80 percent of my guild did not want to play factions.
me being a artist i was in it for the maps.
lux side has me won over but too easy to kill right now.
i didnt like how gw forced us at fort to pvp.

capture the flag would be something i would pvp

Nice.

I, too, am concerned the Necros got too powerful. I know a good MM can make a mission a cakewalk in the past, but now with even more power?!? Flesh Golem is just awesome, I made a Rt/N but was using the Necro powers more than the Ritualist ones....

-Both factions are interesting and appealing.
-The "factions" concept is pulling people deeper into the storyline and gameworld.
-With repeatable quests that give faction rewards, PVE'ers aren't locked out of the faction part of the game, as we had feared.
-Difficulty level is just about right.
-Environments are gorgeous.
-Random 12v12 is fun.
-Lots more henchman choices. My wife refused to go anywhere without taking Brutus along, because she found him so cute. Yes, she is strange.
-I don't know if the final release will work like this, but I loved having access to all skills through the skill trainer right away, and I loved how skill points were scarce so I actually cared about earning XP. Lack of skill quests is actually a good thing, I think.
-Gold rewards for quests, though I'd like to see even more.
-Lots of pretty new weapon skins.

Dislikes
-Still worried about the whole "only big alliances can do elite missions" issue.
-I hated how none of the Kurzick quests send you into Luxon territory and vice versa. Let me stay true to one side, but still explore the whole map.
-Didn't personally enjoy playing a Ritualist, nor did any of my guildmates.
-I'm worried that there won't be enough pure-cooperative missions that drive the storyline like Prophecies had.
-If the whole continent is supposed to be Asian-themed, why is one of the factions (the cooler one even) German?

On balance, I loved it and can't wait for the game to release. Anet has done a great job!

i have pretty much same view as you all, but i just want to add that the FPE is not new player friendly..i know the creep are smarter now but for the new players, they might be shocked by the difficulty of the mob..and the henchies are noobier already..i am wondering..why anet keep boosting the mob while weaken the henchies?..haiz..and yeah, refering to the speedy, i pretty worry that all the towns will be controlled by the mega alliance while the small alliance are shunned out..as for the skill, i think time is needed to adjust to get used around with the skills..more skills should be given during FPE to have a greater view on the new characters..

as for those who are skeptical about GW:F, why not wait for the release of GW: F and see how is the review before jumping to conclusion?..just a thought from me..no offense..

Things I liked are :
-Ass. armor from armorer was very cool.
-like new weapons and shields
-new henchies, the blood necro with the pet was great.
-Ass. skills were alot fun,
-Played very well, Ai was good.

Things I did not like :
-to dark, hard to see in alot of places.
-environment does not look impressive enough.
-not Asianed themed enough, where is the Samurai armor
and asian themed weapons.

Overall did not have enough time to play and see everything, should be
a good sequel, that is the way I see it at the moment.

My biggest problem was err-7. I couldn't finish one mission without disconnecting; in one case _right_ before the portal. We really need
a way to reconnect to a party in-progress.

12 v 12 battles (great fun)
PvE difficulty seems to have gone up a little

Disliked:

Kurzicks (They look like freaks.) and the Petrified Forest (Dark, grey, more dark, boring, repetitive.)
12 vs 12 battles (increadably frustrating due to leavers)

I will say what I did not like since I agree with all of the likes posted above.

Starting Assasin armor was BORING and plain.
Some of the cooperative areas did not have enough people so it would take awhile to get a full group.
Very dark on the Kurzick side.
Not enough faction missions on the Luxon side without spaming the same ones. Never got enough faction to finish befriend Luxon quest. Was easy on the Kuzick side. So played that side the most.

After a hiatus from GW, I participated in the FPE. Due to various personal matters, I didn't manage to play all that much. So I would be interested in what other people thought of Faction. Also, I figure that if the Devs are reading this, it might be good to give them a more coherent review from the
player-base.

Okay, so without further ado, here is my feedback from the preview... A couple of minor points about me (since this helps one understands where I am coming from...)
-- I am primarily a PvE / rpg player
-- If a game is good, we (my wife and I tend to get addicted...)
(side note: between my wife and I, we own 4 copies of GW and a copy of the collector's edition)
-- My own background is a SW engineer and a 3D graphics programmer at one point, so that tends to skew my view on things a bit...

THE GOOD

Overall, I really like the art and design of the new content. The asian theme is really well thought-out and the careful attention to detail in the graphics really pays off... Overall, the content is simply GORGEOUS.

I also think that the faction-based scheme is a good way to lend some drama to the story-line and an attempt to bring the PvP and PvE sides of the game together. It's too early to tell what would happen, but I do hope that it works out.

The new henchmen are great -- I am not quite sure what the devs did (it might be AI tweaks or just better skills), but they are ALOT more useful now.

Finally, I really want mentioned on the dance of the female ritualist. Although some people may feel differently about this, I find it simply marvelous -- it is an incredibly sensual dance. It fits in well with the
south-east Asian culture and the profession. Kudos to whoever at Anet that came up with this.

THE BAD

Overall, these are fairly minor details, however, I do hope that Anet could do something about it...

House zu Heltzer (capital of Kurzicks, sp?): the lighting here is really bad... There is a little too much of the interspersing of bright areas and shadowy areas -- it makes it quite difficult to see things. I had a difficult time to make out details in the town. Perhaps there should be torches maybe mirrors
that reflect light onto the important NPCs.

Need more immersive story telling: I feel that this was an issue with the Prophecy campaign and remains so with the faction. For example -- given that the two professions are new, there should be some story involved in explaining them.
(This maybe an erroneous feeling, as the real faction game may be taking care of this already) An example of what I was hoping for would be the little blurb that first introduced the Assassin class back in the exclusive... I was hoping for something like that in-game...

Overall, I like the game, and I will definitely buy at least one copy to try it out.

EDIT: oops didn't realize there was a faction specific forum... reposting there... mods: please close this thread. Thanks.

After all the hype and such, we get handed a preview wekend. Dun Dun Dun!

Has anyone ever been to the movies and seen a teaser/trailer? Sure you have. Your like "Oh dang I'm gonna go see that movie" then you find out that the trailer was the best part of the movie. Hence the term; teaser!

Although the visual aspect of the FPE was nicely done(maybe add some light or an oasis to the petrified forest), the gameplay left alot to be desired.

Waiting 20 minutes for an opposing party to join in Luxon RA missions; just what I want to spend my time doing
Get into an alliance battle just to have 1/3 or more of your team bail(Spies; I think is the term being used). Something will definately have to be done about that
Alliance control of key areas to all alliances of that faction
Starting skill bars not very effective

I personally just didn't like any aspect of the whole weekend. The whole pvP side of things was way to random. It purely came down to who had the best luck of the draw. Absolutely no skill involved in determining who won a battle. Just who didn't have half the team quit. The RPG/PVE aspect way to broken in storyline and will ulitmately be nothing more than, Gee I wish My faction allegiance had control of more of the map so I can continue to play this game.
I will ultimately have to buy GW:F just to have the skill choices to remain competetive in PvP yet I am not consoled in the fact that I think ANET just put their best foot forward and failed miserably.

I truly hope they spend this upcoming few weeks to iron out the major issues and then work on the minor ones. Over all it's a great idea(faction's and alliances) but it does'nt work. to many ways to exploit the balance issue.

I only got to play for an hour this weekend, but from what I saw everything looks really nice. I know its just the beta, but I'm hoping when factions is released that they some how tie the story line with chapter 1 for people that have completed chapter 1. The beta just feels like a completely separate game to me. I mainly play pve and really didn't want to get too involved with a new character just to have to start over in a month.

Maybe I missed it or accidently skipped it, but I think that an introduction cut scene would have helped me get involved in playing the week end beta. I made a character, downloaded the files, and spawned in town with no story leading up to why I was even there. It felt as if I was missing the reason for factions. I guess Anet doesn't want to give to much away before release.

Seeing as how both me and my wife play (it's our quality time together - lol), I have 1 pre-order copy and will be buying her a copy (or another pre-order) when it releases.

Until then, still have to finish Prophecies with her primary char.

I played Factions for almost 3 whole hours with a A/Rt. And I honestly think it's crap.
I`m susupposed to play with an asian looking dude that runs like Quasimodo (the guy from Notre Dam), get a crab pet and fight giant turtles? Wasn't what I imagined about the PvE part.
I wanted to preoder the game before the event, but I think i wont do it afterall. I`ll wait and see how it turns out. I love Gw Prophecies, but this Faction stuff just ain't what i expected. But hey, it's just me.

What do you think?

Personally, I enjoyed it, especially the alliance battles, though I think ANet needs to make MM's a little less overpowering for them.

Liked:

12v12 Random as a mm with the dragon (best quote was hearing a guy say that its a bad day when you don't even notice your under attack til you see a dragon, twenty minions, and a scary looking guy running past your corpse)!

The siege missions (played it as Kurzick, no wait times since all the lazy people went to the easy to reach Luxon side)

The factions (RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE Luxons!), although I ended up with 10k on each side just to make sure :P

THE FLESH FECKING GOLEM! He was rocking! Bought it with balth fact, can't wait to play with him again! lvl 28 max, well worth it to see tanks get the beat down. PWNED! Pure and simple.

Dislikes:

MM armor bonus is silly. I'm not a tank, I'm a caster! (OTOH, I like it way better than the malus to holy damage, so whatever :P)

The worry that my guild will have to buy a place in a mega alliance just to not suck.

pros:

- the FPE felt like an old school pre-GW beta event
- absolutely mind-blowing graphics and landscapes
- liked the different cultures (Kurzick AND luxons)
- some very cool new skills
- lotsa challenging lvl20 content
- fresh new PvP content
...

all in all, i liked the FPE very much, even if other folks tend to disagree with me here.

cons:
- im forced to pick a side (which wouldnt be so bad if point 2 was different)
- faction points are account based and not character based
- hard to get into the new characters due to lack of skillchoice
...

btw, is it just me and my gamma settings, or was the KURZICK region very very VERY dark. some places were even so dark, i couldnt even see the other players...that was really annoying. i hope they brighten the Kurzick woods up a little bit.

also the luxon region granted a much better overview compared to the rather dense kurzick woods.

nevertheless im looking forward to the 28th

Liked:
  • Alliance battles were a lot of fun, and reminded me of SW Battlefront and other similar games. I especially enjoyed being able to jump right in and play, again similar to more traditional team-based online games.
  • Ritualist is a very deep profession which I thoroughly enjoyed playing, and the possibilites are exciting.
  • Tigers and the new Beast Mastery skills are awesome.
  • Jeremy Soule's new music is beautiful and inspiring.

Disliked:
  • The faces of the female characters were disappointing, as many of them looked to be having a breathing problem with their mouth's hanging open.
  • The Assassin has chicken-legs.
  • The ease of being able to, and frequency of players who quit in Alliance battles and competitive missions.

One final note... maybe it was just bad timing or the nature of the weekend event attracting so many players, but I encountered a lot of really nasty and rude people ingame, especially during my time over in Kurzick's territory. My biggest concern with this is whether the nature of the ingame war and the need to choose a faction is going to encourage this kind of behavior amongst the players or not. If so, it could make the game world a pretty unwelcoming place to spend one's recreation time.

True that, i hate the random 12v12, no communication what so ever, people running all over the place, no sense of tactical goals. it was so horrible.

Before the other weekend awhile back, i had been really psyched about playing an assasin, but the anorexic look really bugs me, i'll stick with ritualist thank you

yea, i met an abnormally amount of rude people, reminded me of runescape *shudder* bad enough i gotta keep max filter up after my parents came in my room last time, but i mean sheesh talking about spelling around the filter, and even when they didnt spell around it they used words, like scientific ones, that no ones uses but everyone knows what they mean
