Anet & NCsoft please improve server latencies
looloo
Hey guys, don't u think guild wars's connection is getting laggier as days passed. With the introduction of factions, there will be moe players playing, i really hope they will improve the latencies, as i experienced some terrible lag when playing pvp, gvg etc until i died without even moving. Please know that this is not becoz of my connection, i'm on 14mb speed connection, so if this really can happen to me, it can happen basically to anyone in game already. My wish is that they will try to improve game latencies and not just make new guild wars products.

were you aware that it can take many internet hops which Anet has no control over and your hot 14mb cant do a thing about?
note that on a much slower connection (3mDSL) i have not had one (1) lag from this rvent.
something is in your way or just maybe your cable is not perfect.
and why are so many others playing without a thing to complain about?
if it is a server problem the boards all over would be filled with complaint threads instead of one here and another there

Might be you need to upgrade your computer and/or you have a virus.

I have also noticed an increase of lag. There is nothing wrong with my connections(T3) or computer speed(P4 2.8) i have no viri / spyware, -i work in IT most of my time is in removing these issues. I dont know what the problem is but i know it is nothing on my side.

I never experience lag. I'm on 728 cable. If your connection is fast then it is likely a bottleneck at one of the hops you make as opposed to Anet servers themselves. Seriously though not once has this game ever lagged for me. The worst thing that happend to me was decompression took forever and that was memory not connection speed.

it could be a case of im fine and ANET is fine and there is something happening in the middle.
as an ANET person said
*after it leaves our servers and is out the door we have no control over what happens to it*

Actually I find that rather queer as Ive run this game on Dial Up, Cable and DSL (friends who have it and I enter once in a while with my account) and unless its the coputer's own hardware (lack of enough ram, good vid cards) I havent experienced lag. It might be however a bottle neck. You could check it out using the command prompt in XP systems and using ping and tracrt command:
ping www.guildwars.com
tracert www.guildwars.com
You could also ping your own computer for its connection but I dont quite recall the IP to do this. Also ping and trace other pages so you can determine where the problem is at.

I could be wrong but I believe that to ping your own machine it's 127.0.0.1

Yes thank you you just saved me an edit , but that's correct you ping your own machine with 127.0.0.1 to make sure the network adapter is correctly working. Then it is recommended you use Tracert then ping with an infinite loop:
tracert www.guildwars.com
then
ping -t www.guildwars.com
Or other webpages to observe how your connection is working.

Speaking of lag though, I did notice a sizeable increase in lag for the week before the preview event and during it... Anet was streaming a ton of stuff to my computer though, so that may have contributed to any bandwidth issues.

Honestly I would be suprised if they ran the website and the game off the same servers. There is a world of difference between a web server hosting just website code and a database and application server hosting a game and all the accounts that go with it. They've done a fantastic job of managing their server resources for the game and keeping it scaled to the growing population but I don't think it is feasible to run the website and the game form the same server set. Still if you have a connection diagnostic tool you can track the IP address that Guild Wars connects to when you log in and then ping that.

lag was bad for me, especially in 12v12 battles, but with 24 people, a zillion minions, and AI henchmen all running in the same place, i cant really complain untill i get some more ram and see if that doesnt fix the problem. if not, im sure they will fix it......like all the other problems they have fixed/are working on.
