"lag" jumpiness- alt tab.
SincorpDeath
Hey guys. Often times i may need to alt tab out of GW for various reasons, usually to check something on GURU, and when i alt tab back, everything works fine. But sometimes- when i alt tab back, the game starts jumping around like Crazy! It's not the rubberband effect, everything still plays fine- members in my group are having no problems, but it's like my fps jumps down to 1. This also sometimes happens just from zoning.
also, i've had it do like a halfway screwup before- where i zoned, and i could tell that GW was having a hard time running, like the fps was reduced to half. Everytime this has happened, if i zone into an area, the fps/jumpiness is completely screwed, so i have to restart gw.
any ideas on how to fix/prevent this? It's just a minor annoyance.

try minimizing the window instead of alt+tab. GW is set up so you can play in windowed mode or minimixe or close the game window just like you would any other window open on your machine.

How much actual ram your machine has? How much processor speed are we talking about?

Like Zhou Feng I suspect the reason you get "lag" is that you've run out of RAM, and your computer is swapping memory to disk. Close all non-essential programs to free up RAM, and you'll see that the choppiness disappears pretty quickly.

nope i dont think thats the case the exact same thing has started to happen with me. Its like the fps goes down to 1 I have tried changing all video settings and sound settings right down and turned off but it still wont fix this problem when it happens. I have to restart GW and its all fine again.
I have 1.50 GB of ram with a p4 3.2 Ghz. Have made sure all my drivers are upto date and sometimes its still goes funny. I dont have a great graphics card just a geforce fx 5700, but its been great for a few months which makes me thing it was an update to GW thats caused this....
grrrrr the quick reply here never works for me either lol
edit: yeah i know all about the FX bug thing but i don't have any missing terrain or any of the other problems just this weird lag type issue when i sometimes alt+tab or zone.

Hmm might be some updates might be acting funny with the graphics. Well its hard to determine these issues. Maybe you should set up your graphic with the auto detect. I used to have a similar problem whenever I opened up the inventory it will glitch up a bit then reset to normal. Never found out what did it or how it got fixed. Might also be the mother boards video cards configurations.

If your FPS is fine, and people are 'Jumping' around (warping) zone out and back in, or change districts... GW 'pauses' when you ALT+TAB and it causes a delay on the rendering of where people are...
i promise you, re-zoning, or changing districts will fix this

This just started happening to me too around thursday or friday I can't remember ... but Cantha was not exactly friendly to travel in like this...
specs are
6600GT
p4 3.0
1.25 GB memory
broadband highspeed
no other apps running ... I think it has to do, for me at least, the new terrains and textures being loaded into my memory. But its so bad I just have to reload GW ... some other guildies almost considered not getting chapter 2 because sometimes it was just unplayable. But I assured them it's likely the loading of the textures into their memory.
I guess I will have to take a chance and hope it eventually goes away. Funny thing isit was completely random where it would happen. Sometimes even to already loaded areas.

I had this happen to me for the first time last night. I was in Granite Citadel, used Alt-Tab, checked GuildWiki, came back, and suddenly I was mad choppy. I restarted GW and the problem was gone.
Not sure how to fix it, not sure why it would happen, as I have been Alt-Tabbing all over the place since I got the game.
