GuildWars Faction price tag
shinsengumi-sama
I've been on GW main page and did some dig-up on the price tag that Faction will have, now I live in Canada and from what i've seen the game will cost 70$, now why would an expension cost more than the main game at its launch. I hope that the 70$ is for the collector box and not the basic one, or is that the price for the pre-order version ???
Even tho i'm a big fan of GuildWars...i'm not sure i'd want to spend 70$ on an expension, especially when there's nothing in the box beside the game cd and a booklet.
If someone got an answer to this please tell me

Firstly,
Guild Wars Factions is not an expansion pack. It is a stand alone game. So it gets a stand alone game price, 50 dollars.
And is there an exhange rate for Canadian money?

dargon
the $70 is the US price, in Canadian thats approx $82, and yes Factions is a standalone game that can act as an expansion to the original. It has the same amount or more content than the original and thus the same price.

Factions is like $49.99 unless you are getting the CE.
CE = Collector's Edition.
CE = Collector's Edition.

I preordered my game for 50$ at Best Buy... although I don't recommend them cause you don't get the preorder package, just the game when it releases.
Hockster
EB Games in Canada is selling the preorders for $75.00. A complete total ripoff. There's no indication whatsoever if the pre pack is CE, SE, or anything.

I went to Best Buy and preordered...and got a preorder package....
Its all where you go...and $70 is the CE

For those of you in the US, it doesn't matter what you paid.

To answer one of the question the change rate is 0.853097 $ can for 1$ us. And its 1.1722 Us dollar for 1$ canadian.
Now i didnt know that Faction was a stand alone game...but a 70$ price tag for Canada well...a bit expensive especially here in Quebec
Quebec : 70$ *.1450 % in tax = around 80.15$
The rest of Canada : 70$ * 7% ( i think its 7% ) = around 75 $
Us price : 49.99 * 1.1722 ( Us doller change rate ) = 58.60$ canadian
i've seen a few tag price from us and uk your the lucky one, not here...well not me...oh well i'll wait and see.
And sorry if i get out of GW topic, but Oblivion from Bethsoft cost less and its twice as big.
I hope that for 70$ Faction will have a lot of stuff.
I'm sorry if i'm a bit direct and all, please know that i'm not aiming this at anyone.

That basically puts everything at around 14.5% tax for each province on average.
Oh, and Alberta doesn't have any PST. Long live the oil dealing machines.

I paid 10 bucks for the preorder at Best Buy. I assumed that Factions would then cost me 10 bucks less when released. Am I correct?

CE seems reasonably priced because you get 3 slots instead of 2. Plus all the other cool stuff. And you get the big box

Exchange rates aside...(whooo go Canadian dollar....worth more than Canadian tire money again...hehe) The $69.99 price tag appears to be for the regular version..not the ce...that's at future shop...bestbuy and ebgames. I believe (and this is just a theory of mine)..that the price of factions is higher than prophecies..because prophecies was the first game and they weren't sure of how well it would sell...and having seen the numbers on that they decided to charge an extra $10...knowing that the vast majority of us would be buying the 2nd game in order to not be "left behind" and to stay on a level playing field...there is no Anet bashing here..so do not accuse me of such. It's a standard marketing procedure and I don't fault them for it. ....Though I will confess I was slightly "shocked" when I saw the price tag for the first time. Then again...my theory could be completely wrong....as I don't know if it's also $10 more in the US and Europe for Factions than it was for Prophecies.

Interesting...and I'll take your word for it...but when I asked at the above listed locations, I was told that was the price for the standard not the ce....I shall have to do some more investigating.

Kerrick??
I'm personally going to chalk this up to another case of mistaken identity with a wag of the finger towards Canadian dealers in particular. Here's my reasoning...
Taking into account that game dealers in general are slightly stupid when it comes to knowing anything about one game specifically.. spider sense tells me that the OP was told pre-exchange price for the CE - most likely the US list price gotten from either Anet itself or the website.
i'm also guessing that the stores Justafyme spoke to were a bit confused as well.. but he's still investigating that.
If this is the case.. then the prices look like this with today's exchange rate before any taxes..
US Regular: $49.99
US CE: $69.99
CAN Regular: $58.04Cdn
CAN CE: $81.28Cdn
UK Regular: £28.75
UK CR: £40.25
soo.. with the exception of any serious price gouging by Canadian dealers (which you coudn't blame Anet for), this is the theory I'd put my money on, if I was a betting man.

well
i break it down into hours played vs money spent
first gw: 50 bux... 2000 hours
you do the math... but its pennies!

Also, none of these Canadian retailers is yet offering the Collector's Edition! So I have no idea what it would cost here. EBGames doesn't have an exclusive .ca site --- they show Regular and CE versions in US dollars but don't mention if CE will even be available in Canadian stores, let alone what either version would cost.

and while i've had no experience with Future Shop.. buying games at Best Buy is, in my opinion, a poor choice to begin with. It's really just hard to believe that retailers would mark up the price as much as $20 when prices in both the US and UK remain the same.. but there you have it I guess. My suggestion is to either email you retailer of choice and ask about where the extra money goes.. and if it's not Child's Play or the Red Cross than maybe you should look somewhere else.

I am in New Brunswick, Canada... game is $69.95 + Tax. WHich is well worth it. I payed about the same for CH1 and have played it for over 1100 hours. I think it is well worth the money.
