What, exactly, does PUG mean?

I'm not new to the forums or anything, but people keep dropping the word "PUG" (in reference to groups) in Riverside Inn. I've tried several times unsucessfully to decode the acronym, and all I can come up with is that the G probably means "group". So yeah, thanks if you can fill me in.
