If everyone is creating new characters, its got to be good for the runners. Do you think we will see a temporary price increase for Droks Runs and others? Also what effect do you guys think it will have on crafting material and dyes.

Well, we've already seen the price of ectos drop. Rubies and sapphires spiked, but have since dropped back down. Only time will tell.

It's hard to say at this point. Will they change the crafting materials for armor before the final release? What we be the availabilty of the various materials in Cantha? I don't think we will know for sure until the release.

There will also be a new demand for runners in Cantha, and new place to farm. Will there be new greens? New places to farm ecto?

Just too many question at this point to know for sure what will happen.

I think for the first 30 days things will be calm... then we will see some people who have finished the game start to "pull" others along. In the initial wave of completions people will exploit others by buying materials that will be important -- that others do not know about. Then as more people find the "special" armors those material prices will spike for a period of four to six months. After that the prices will level out as demand wanes for the "l33t" armors.

Must agree there.

In prophecies, most people done things normally for about 3-4 months. But after then people figured best run routes, shortcuts ect.

Personally it doesn't effect me if runners do what they do or not, it's a way to make money, but can spoil fun.

Ashleigh.

I think prices of items will go down as everyone will want the new golds and greens to then come back to Ascalon and show them off. As per materials, I think Cantha will likely use some of the same materials as Tyria or else we will all be running out of storage.

I think it will be harder for the "first wave" to scam the "laggards" coming from Tyria because of websites like this and guildwiki... information will travel very fast as there are always people who cannot keep a secret.

Black dyes have peaked recently from 7k to 8.5k after the preview, i am sure many players see themselve in the new armour from Cantha in black Personally i will be collecting all the common crafting materials like Tanned hides, steel and iron for my Factions armour since i dont plan to mess around too long for armour but things like common crafting materials will be expected to rise for the first month or so on relase of Cantha like GWP when everyone was trying to get materials for decent armour.

I actually think the prices of some greens will go up. The massive hoards of people farming SF and Tombs will soon be in Cantha, thus supply drops and prices rise. Of course, you could argue demand will drop also but that depends on whether Cantha offers viable alternatives to the current popular greens. Should be interesting!

don't.....get me started....these topics make me write 10 page reports...

In Short:

I'm pretty sure that the prices for ecto will continue to drop because everyone will want factions armor which most likely won't require ecto. If rubies and sapphires are useful in factions as ANet has released, prices will rise (buy now). Dyes are becomming less and less valuble (which is a good thing since I don't see why it should cost so much just to chage the color of your clothing).

As for running, More people will be wanting runs and power leveling for their new characters (in prophecies) because running won't be entirely avaliable in canthra (this assumes that you have to be ascended to travel to canthra). So in other words, get your characters ascended/ran NOW before prices are raised.

As for weapon and shields: Stock up on -50 cesta's, Fiery Flame Spitters, carapace shields, HoD weapons if possible. New weapons will be avaliable in Factions and over time weapons will be nerfed. And when that happens, you can sell off those weapons that you have been holding on to.

If you see some new collectors items that are overpowered or could be of use to a certain build (55ing, etc) in canthra I would also suggest you stock up on those as well.

well..there I go again...I'm gonna stop here before I start writing a whole report on things.

Thanks for all your input, perhaps buying up some stuff now could pay off. Then again its all a gamble, not sure what I will do. Prob just hold what i got now not sell any craft material.

Because you can pull your other characters to factions, if you merge the account, people will farm probably right away. Get some good/ok stats on new skin weapons and sell them at outrageous prices. Then the market will actually "get smart" and stop paying so much on the items/weapons. Then comes the downer of all sellers dreams, they have to find some new way to make as much money as before selling these "awsome" looking skins with OK stats and thus start looking for a nice farming spot, then someone will blab about it and then it gets nerfed... Wow... things will go back to normal in a few weeks.

Im betting a HUGE influx of factions weapons in the tyrian market.

Those items might be "common" skins in cantha, but would probably sell better in tyria.

There might become a "seperate" market in cantha, where rare skins in Tyria will be even MORE expensive (For non-merged players, the Tyrian rares will be more desirable) and vice versa.

For common and near-common (parchment, fur) crafting materials, I am assuming that the prices will firm up again around the traditional levels. (It's harder these days to sell iron or cloth at 10 gold than it used to be, but I'm holding firm.)

For dyes, surely the demand will skyrocket. But the supply seems to have gone up recently too, and indeed dye inventories may be so large that nothing preserves dye pricing.

I generally agree with everyone here, but I just wanted to add this.......

A large segment of the Cantha population will be POOR. Whether that's ppl who only have Factions, or didn't bind their Proph/Factions accts, these ppl won't be finding the uber new stuff and won't be in the position to buy much.

Yes, yes, and not to much at first.

Your first two points are the likely outcome: people who are prophecies-only (or haven't heard about Factions ... like they've been living under a rock or something) will be the ones paying outrageous prices for mediocre Factions items.

As someone above me noted though, the Factions only folks will most likely not have the capital to invest in Tyrian rares ... not at first

I do sincerely hope this won't breed a whole new race of scammers/tricksters importing Canthan goods into Tyria to rip off people who don't know any better ... but I fear that will end up being the case.

If you have taken economics:
-Increased supply of materials, dyes, runes, etc. = less price
-Decreased demand of Prophecies Armor and Weapons = less price for crafting materials for Prophecies armor (ex. Ecto, Shards)
-Increased amount of competition due to new players = less price

Thats really the nail on the head, you also have an influx of new "exotics" which will ofcourse over shadow all currently existing things. Old will become outdated and be suplanted with the new "more cool" things that will appear. All in all, if you want fow armour buy it after factions :P

However... did everyone notice one particular rare crafting item that the Canthan armor uses that hasn't any use yet in Tyria? Yep, Vials of Ink. One people realize that they need ink for many of the armors in Cantha, that's one item that the price will rise on. I'm sure there's others as well... depends on what required often that hasn't been before.

Im worried about the montorous items- Im not sure whether to risk investing money in them now or just suffer later when I find that I will need them for armour
