Factions question: Secondary profession changing
TRUEgamer
In the Factions BWE, there was a guy in The Marketplace that could make it so you could change your secondary profession instantly at no cost of gold, experience, skill points or anything. It became very useful when I started as an Assassin/Warrior and found a combo using a necro hex spell, requiring the change to A/N at the drop of a hat.
Do you think this will be in the game as well.... either as it was in the BWE or as a charged service (faction, gold or skill points), or do you think it was just there for profession-testing purposes and won't be in the final game?

I think it was only there for the FPE, so that we could try out diffenernt combinations in the short time available.
Gaile has said that there will be an option for Prophecies chars to change secondary to /A or /Rt, so I think there will be something similar to what exists in Prophecies.

When you merge your accounts you can change your Core Secondary to a Factions Secondary at Crystal Desert. You will also be able to play Core from the beginning as a Assasin or Rit Prime.

As for starting out as a Assasin or Rit as a primary(in prophecies) I am not positive, but I think you can if you have both games, but I am not 100% sure if I saw Gaile say it or if it was speculation. I am almost positive you can. I would bet that you could. Because all professions are unlocked in both lands with both games.

I need to correct Rolln a bit. You can start out in Core as Assasin or Rit Prime BUT you must create the character in Factions first then you can travel to Tyria and start from the beginning. I could be wrong or I could be right but I saw something saying that is how it supposedly works.

My quess: You'll be able to change secondaries to A or Rt in Cantha, but not in the dessert. (Only a guess...)
Mr.Interrupt
NO, Gaile said FOR SURE that you can change secondary in desert. This isn't a guess so stop trying to undermine the previous statement please.
Killmur
Well what makes no sense is when Mehnlo during FPE said that he was hoping that the Canthan events would not spread to Ascalon Kingdom... I am thinking maybe you do start off in Pre-Sear afterall with a Assasin or Rit. My belief is that the events in Factions takes place sometime during or before the Searing. It would not only make sense BUT jive with what Mehnlo said in Marketplace. As we all know Asaclon Kingdom just got out of the Guild Wars and headed straight into a shoving match with the Charr. So if what Mehnlo said is true then it would make sense for Factions to take place after the Guild Wars BUT before the actual Searing. However now we have the whole settlement issue so yea somehow things are a bit wonky.

Now, they COULD just use existing NPCs and quests and offer Assassin and Ritualists skills, too. That, actually, could be very likely.

aha, but here is the fun part

ArenaNet says we can make Assassins and Ritualists in Prophecies if we link a Factions account
From ANet Interview March 7 2006
Yes, those who own both campaigns—Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign) and Guild Wars Factions—can create Assassins and Ritualists who are able to play in both cooperative and PvP modes in Tyria and Cantha. They then can create a character with a birthplace in either land. That is, you may choose to start on the continent of Tyria, or on the continent of Cantha. Once a character is ascended, he or she can travel between the continents via boat. And existing characters can be recast, for those with both campaigns, to have as a secondary the Ritualist or Assassin profession.

Jeff Strain says you can't make Assassins and Ritualists in Prophecies even if we link a Factions account. You would have to make Assassins and Ritualists in Factions (Cantha) first and travel back.
From interview at Computer Games Online March 24 2006
[Jeff] Strain said the new professions can only be chosen through the Factions campaign. Those wishing to start new characters with the Ritualist or Assassin class must start in Cantha and later come around to the original Prophecies campaign.

I'm betting since he's the CEO we should take his word for it, no starting new Assassins and Ritualists in Pre-searing and running them through the Prophecies quests
