I've read several nice guides on pets, but I havent seen much in the way of oppinions as to which pet evolution (dire, hearty, elder) people prefer. I know the stat differences, but its hard to tell from that which will actually be most useful.

I'm most interested in which people like to use in GvG as I'm planning on a Bunny Thumper with pet sort of build. But I'd also like to know if anyone feels a particular evolution gives a significant advantage in PvE.

Just from expirience, I'd want a hearty pet because I sure as hell am not going to waste a slot on my skillbar for comfort animal, dire is -60hp compared to elder and -120 compared to hearty, all for +2 or +4 damage respectivly.

I usually prefer Dire. But I usually devote most of my skillbar to my pet if I run a beastmaster build....but you really don't see many in GvG. At least you don't see any in the GvG meta game, but that's pretty restrictive.

Dire all the way. If your pet is focus fired it will die, regardless of whether its Hearty or Dire. The normal healing you can get for your pet makes any DoT pretty negligible. Pet resses are very quick and reliable, and pets don't take any DP. Why, then, would you want less damage? I was fairly certain that Epinephrine and I touched on the subject in our pet guide, but I could be wrong.

I could be (read: definitely am) biased on the matter, but it's to the point that I almost laugh when people use a Hearty pet.

...then again, when people don't know or don't care what they're doing with the pet, they will invariably train up a Hearty pet. So aside from any rational reasons for one pet or another, Hearty pets have a very bad reputation due to a higher proportion of horrible beastmasters controlling them.

Yep, in PVP, Dire would be the way to go. Unfortunately my lizard is hearty and I'm too lazy to get another one to get to Dire.

So aside from any rational reasons for one pet or another, Hearty pets have a very bad reputation due to a higher proportion of horrible beastmasters controlling them. good point! for PVE i like hearty to get aggro away from me, but PVP!!!! for sure DIRE is the answer. besides other team tends to kill anyone else like a monk or memer, they dont realise that pet IS dealing them damage, so they forget it.
