I dont know about you guys, but during the actual game, I only had one real complaint...THE VOICE ACTING. I was horrific, the dialogue was equally low....you guys think Factions will improve on it, or just more of the same? maybe we can even get moving mouths!!!! although I won't hold my breath

I think the voice acting was fine for the most part. The dwarves were really annoying, kind of stereotypical dwarf type voice. Steven Blum as the male lead doesnt fit some of the faces, especially necros and mesmers. My favorite voice would have to be to Evennia's. Overall, i think the voices were fine, and for the most part fit the character.

The writing was a little generic or on the cheezy side...however.

This i didn't like: "Never give me the opportunity for revenge" ~Jalis (This line was simply grating my ears)

Things that were kinda good: Speeches before or after someone died.

i didnt find anything wrong with the voice acting. considering GW isn't PPM, i can understand the lack of moving mouths. Because think about it. They now translate this game into how many languages? if they moved the mouths for one, it'd be off for all the others. and creating moving mouths for ALL the languages they support would be insane, because it would be costly, it would take a long time, and it wouldn't make the game any better.

and also, you get a different voice per class, male and female, so that's as good as 18 different voices for you to listen to in the cinematics.

and not only that, but the game puts all your characters(your groups characters) into the cinematic, which is cool on its own.

there lines, i admit, were corny at times and could stand improvement, but overall they got the point across, the story flowed well, and I don't think they have any obligation to do anything better or different in factions.

Moving mouths can wait, better plot first...other then that, watch the minefield of elitist/small percentage control or resources and they'll be fine.

I think the voice part is fine. Anet is is starting out. They are using low poly models too as well. There is alot of games that have bad lip sink, I think it is ok.

According to Gaile, moving mouths won't happen because of the amount of facial animations they will have to make for all the varied languages the game is in would be horrendous.

low poly models and facial animation don't go well together, facial animation is mainly used for high poly models.

judging from the looks of things, this game employs a very low poly count for each model - probably around 1500-2000 marker which at that level it is very difficult to get an accurate facial representation of human behaviour, and since most of the work is done in the textures and the normal maps, it will just look wrong and out of place.

that is why in a lot of low poly games you hardly get any facial movement. there is just not enough verticies within the models structure to simulate such an effect.

Play Riverside Province or Sanctum Cay with a female lead and then tell me that the voice acting is fine.

None, free and clear

I heard a webcast recently. Dunno who it was with but I remember it was someone from ANet. Well, anyways, he said that the whole purpose of Factions is to fill in the gaps- improve where Prophecies was lacking. Now... will they actually achieve that? No one can tell you... not at this point. Based on what I saw in the FPE... I would say that it is very likely that we are going to have a completely new game experience. Whether that is going to fill in the gaps of the original game or not, I cannot tell you. I know one thing that has been bugging me is the realms of the Gods. I wish they would finally add the remaining 3...

Voice acting? Like anyone even watches cinematics anymore lol.
If the voices bother me I just turn off the speakers until its done. As far as I am concerned I could care less about the voice acting, it is an extremely small part of the game that I only watch once anyways.

Trust me, attempted talking animations on 2-D sketch faces would be merely an embarassment to anet.
No video game that uses 2-D faces EVER has moving mouths, and for obvious reasons.

My word: Be grateful for what we got.

What on EARTH do you mean by "2-D" faces?

Do you mean characters that have a "2-D" texture on them, like every single 3-D model ever created for a modern video game?

No, the mouths are most certainly not going to start moving in Factions, but still, I'm really curious what the heck Cade means.

For the most part, I enjoyed the voice acting. Some voices were quite fitting, such as Saidra's and Jalis (I am an ex-warcraft player, so I prefer the stereotypical dwarven accents). Others were just plain terrible, such as Brechnar. All in all, it was pretty good...

The models do have low polygon counts (how else can you run Guild Wars on even the ruddiest of Graphics Cards?), so you cannot expect much. Pets, Lichie, and Glint DO move mouths...kind of. So at least some of Guild Wars has functioning mouths.

Duly Thankful
