So apprently the elements that exist in this game is fire, air, earth, and water. I simply want to know which element beats the other element? Also, is there a monster database that shows what element the monster is akin to or what element they're weak against?

I've been wondering the same thing. I usually just guess. Like, I know the creatures made of ice are obviously weak against fire.

wiki is down.

Ya I can tell what element a monster has (ice imp, fire imp) but ya know there are just some that are oblvious to me. Hmm too bad there isn't conjure earth in prophecies.

Anyway isn't it weird how's there's conjure frost and not conjure water, and lightning and not air? At least there is conjure fire >:}

well... i know air magic is strong vs foes in strong armor, earth is good dmg dealer and well, fire beats air (water beats fire, fire beats ice, but no clue about earth and air...)

Frost and Water are the same (they are both "Cold" damage... Conjure Frost is just the name of a skill, and Water Magic is just a category) and Lightning and Air are the same (It's all "Lightning" damage... "Air Magic" is just the name of an attribute and set of skills)

Anyways, most undead enemies are ridiculously weak to fire.

I got this from Guild Wiki, and I couldn't find anything saying anything about what is resistant or weak against which. All I know is Holy damage is good against Undead... pretty much... Definitely need to figure this out.

Elemental
Cold
Earth
Fire
Lightning

Magical
Chaos
Holy
Shadow
Dark

Physical
Blunt
Piercing
Slashing

Yes we should definitely figure this out. I think elemental weapons are being overlooked. If we could figure this out then I would be a happy man . It is really powerful to use an element that the foe is weak against. Take for example ettins.
They are weak against the fire element. If you haven't already tried, equip a FDS or fire weapon and use glymph of elemental power and conjure flame and attack ettins; you'll see a dramatic change in damage.
Anyway, here's my two cents: lightning > cold > fire > earth > lightning (rinse repeat).

also, you cant forget that some of the types that MasterDinadan catagorized as "Magical" ignore armor.

There's not a simple pattern like "This creature uses this element, so he must be weak to the opposite!" That's the kind of thing you see in games like Final Fantasy, but probably not here.

The amount of damage a creature takes from an element simply depends on how much armor he has (and they might have lower armor against one element than another) If you want to find out what element a particular creature is weak against, grab a bunch of wands and try them out on an enemy, see which does more damage than the rest.

Creatures of the same type probably usually have similar armor ratings. This means, if you find that an undead creature takes a lot of damage from fire, chances are most other undead creatures also take a lot of damage from fire (which is true)

you mentioned one of the magical traits ignores armor, which one is it? In fact what does each one do because I'm sure there's more to each one than light dark...etc.

Just so people don't go crazy, I think some/many careatures aren't any more or less suceptable to one element than another. What I have noticed so far, though is this:

*Fire is good vs. - Undead, Plants, Ice/Frost anything
*Earth is good vs. - Heavily armored targets (armor ignoring spells) Things that hurt a lot (wards and protective spells)
*Air is good vs. - More heavy armor and warriors (25% penetration spells and weakness/blindness/knockdowns)
*Water is good vs. - Bugs, Fire/inferno/spark anything and Burning/Ashen/hand&fist Titans
*Holy/Light is uber vs. - Undead
*Chaos/Dark - No idea... guess it's just a type of magical damage that there is no boost against
*Shadow - Some necro spells cause shadow damage which completely bypass armor

I don't really know anything about Chaos dmg, but I think it ignores armor. I know for sure that the other two types, shadow/dark and holy/light dmg ignore armor. shadow and dark the same type of dmg.

Shadow and holy damage ignore armor, and holy is doubled against undead targets. Dark and light are inflicted only by certain necromancer and monk wands/staves, which do not ignore armor. (The light wands do inflict double damage on undead, though.) Also, note that the "holy" damage inflicted by Judge's Insight does not ignore armor.

Chaos damage is inflicted only by mesmer wands/staves, which do not ignore armor. All mesmer spells that inflict damage ignore armor, but don't have a named damage type.

(Side note: the necromancer armor sets "Tormentor's" and "Necrotic" increase the damage taken from all sources of holy/light damage, regardless of whether or not it's armor-ignoring.)
