well i actually got this card a while ago as an upgrade from my intel 64MB on-board and it came with a disc. A Catalyst software that i guess im suppose to install.....

but whenever i put it in, my cd drive makes buzzing sounds off and on and everything on my computer freezes. but once i eject it everything runs smoothley.

So i upgraded memory from 128MB to 768MB and thought that might help. But no, same thing.

Any ideas, or if i even need whats on it?

I've got the same card and the same problem with Catalyst. You don't need Catalyst you just need the driver. Catalyst just lets you tweak the card settings independently of the game or the OS. It's nice to have but not at all necessary. I don't think it has anything to do with your computer because I have 1.5GB RAM and a P4 and it still doesn't work.

ok. But it also said something about letting me know when there are updates.

Should i just frequently check ATI's site for driver updates?

Yes although they bundle their drivers with the latest catalyst. I think the newest is 6.3. It probably still won't install for some reason but the driver will still go in fine.

I've also got the same card. I couldn't get Catalyst to work either from the disk. Recently I installed the latest update from ATI's website and Catalyst works fine now.
