Petition to prevent rank emote from being flashed in RA and TA during battle

While I can see some use for being able to use the /rank emote in random arenas such as being able to signal to your team that you are an "experienced" player, though I take only moderate stock in this. I think it is serious issue when a melee player such as a warrior or thumper gets up in the monk's face and spams this emote while hitting them. My main issue is that it is distracting. I have set up my user interface to attempt to optimize the visual space for kiting and movement -- by placing the spell/skill bar, hex/condition/enchant indicators on the fringes allowing for the center space to be used for character movement which is very important to me. Large glowing emotes take away from my visual space while playing the game.

I see no functional reason that this emote should be allowed during the battle of any of the competitive PvP setting -- GvG, HA, TA, and RA. The emote makes quite a bit of sense for teams attempting to form in HA (and to some degree TA). While this has never been a problem for me in GvG, it seems to have become quite a fad in TA of late.

Looking for /signed or /not signed responses to my petition and any logic behind each response.

Perhaps just make it so that it can't be used when an enemy is in the aggro bubble? Either way, spamming it at your foes is kinda stupid, i think. It really doesn't mean you're better than your opponent, just that you have enough rank. Eh, meh. I agree, the middle of combat isn't the place to be able to flash such emotes.

EDIT: To clarify my position, I'm refering to living opponents, not dead ones. Shouldn't be usable while engaged in combat (like ID kits can't be used in combat, for example).

but then we can't watch power of my rangers do the rank 12 emote on pvp justice's body.
If you earn rank, you should be able to use it.

Stop whining. I'd rather have someone flash me with their rank than straight up call me noob... though either way, who cares? Get over it.

If someone calls you a noob monk etc. in RA then it's fun to flash the rank.

I support all of your logic. However, people did work hard for those emotes and Anet limiting their use would result in 200 threads on here about how much that change sucks. Too much trouble for too little result. If you really want to beat them just get a higher emote. ^.^

Again, you earn the emote (unless u darm it...) so it should be allowed to use it. However, perhaps some limtation on how much you can use it in a given time, to stop ppl spamming it. Perhaps a 10 second delay, which wont hurt too much.

edit. missread post. Disregard answer

/not signed, you earned your rank, and it is your free will if you want to flash it, its a free country. Maybe there should be a feature in options to disable /rank emote for peopel like OP, who either does in fact get distracted by rank or is jealous of not having one.

This game is about skill using skills, not about skill using tricks.

Nevertheless, I doubt that something like that might implemented. As it is a similar case than using the general chat to insult or any other way of emotional manipulation attempt, or to try to distract from fight; and general chat is not goin to be censured, I think. Think you can toggle it, anyway, but you can not toggle emotes.

Dude we get this even without the rank emote, emoted. I remember against top +10 guild while fighting, I won't lie we were losing at the flag stand was 5 vs 8, them. When all but a monk was up, the warrior simply danced, than attacking the monk. Can't help it, emotes work everywhere.

Some people have brought up some good points that have convinced me that the rank emote should be allowed even during battle for the players that want to see it. However, does turning off the emotes checkbox prevent someone else's visual emote from being displayed to you? If not, then this is the way I would like it to function. Also, I am not using "first person" view as somebody else suggested. My camera is zoomed out as far as possible.

Jealousy on the lack of emote really has nothing to do with it, because I have only started to participate in Heroes Ascent recently and still spend most of my game time either in GvG or Team Arenas. If it is true that it stops them from attacking for a couple of seconds, then this is a good enough penalty for using it mid-battle. I have also had other cases where the match is already lost and I am the last one left alive and these emotes get flashed in my face. I do not lose often when I am playing monk with my guildmates in TA, but when it does happen I strongly dislike having the emote shoved in my face. Players of this mentality (the Mike Madasow types of Guild Wars) are often the same ones who love to trash talk which is going to cause me to disable local and trade chat. I prefer not to have to disable these channels, because my guild uses them for very useful purposes such as:

- offering our battle cries of "Moo!!" or "Got Milk?" before a match. If your guild doesn't have a battle cry, then try one out as it builds great unity.
- stating good luck and have fun before a match
- stating "gg" after a match
- offering the opposing teams tips after a match. For instance, we faced a Korean group in TA and noticed throughout the match that they cast faintheartedness on everyone in my group except the warrior (basically just our mesmer, ele, and monk). A guildmate of mine speaks Korean and has a Korean keyboard. He offered advice on this skill to them and we learned that several of the skill descriptions are translated poorly into Korean (such as Shields Up describing only affecting those that have a shield which is just wrong). Ironically, we immediately faced the same group of Koreans the next match and they used the skill correctly and it made for a much better match even though we still won.

Can anyone provide a definitive answer as to whether or not disabling the emote channel will disable the graphic of other people's emotes?

Do you realize that flashing rank actually prevents you from moving (and i assume attacking - never tried it while fighting) for the first half of the animation? People who do it during combat are retarded and you should be grateful you're not taking 2 extra hits in your face while their deer is rearing its head.

EDIT: The argument that something flashy prevents OP from monking is pretty silly too. Do you get distracted by your own prot spirit animations? How about when somebody casts it on you... ooh, shiny... I think OP is just jealous he doesn't have one.

It does not. I have backpeddled on my position (per sequence 23), because of the arguments posted by others -- sequence 14 had the most compelling one. The real reason I do not want to be forced to see other people's emotes is described in paragraph 1 of sequence 26.

trash talking is a perfectly viable method of gaining a slight psychological advantage. it's done in almost every sport. learn to deal with it, or better, learn how to utilize it to your advantage.

Blah blah blah...something tells me you made all this up. If you want to avoid having a rank 9 emote on your screen, zoom out and get over it.
