The exact same thing happened to me when I had -I choose not to name them-, and they charged my father around 40 dollars more just because I downloaded the client for guild wars and installed it and so on.
To get to the point, it's a horrible thing to happen to you, I quickly changed my ISP, and have a fair 20 gigabyte download limit. Wheeee.
On another note, I see you've been using your Moderating powers to lock up several threads, Tsunami. Rarely have I seen so many threads locked up by the same Moderater in a short time since Savio o.o
(we all know that many members here at guru feel that he is a nazi :P)
I also love your new picture, what IS that hippo thing..?

answering the original question, one hour of GW generally takes about 3-5 MB for me (on lowest graphics settings, it might be why).
Former Ruling
An Hours time? I dont know, but in 1 gaming session I've noticed 500mb+ downloaded. For the Factions event.
BTW, game updates arent downloading anything, the "new build avialable" updating, is to apply whats already downloaded to your game mostly. (unless its a huge update, or you havent been on to stream the files).

remember those monster downloads?
add those up and i have added over a gig to my GW folder last month.
running your own character should be about the same when it settles back down.

Definately get a new ISP. A limit on your downloads. That's incredibly gay. They should be shot for pricing like that.

Ive the same thing (cept for 18gb a month) and they are the only provider around here besides 56k.
No GW will never eat up anywhere near that 2gb...even playing 24 hours a day.
It eats <1mb an hour from what ive tested. (It also probably depends on what you are doing...PVP seems to take more)
Its the updates that are killing you. The factions event was nearly a gig of content on its own. (that and stuff outside guildwars isnt helping)

What kind of ISP has limit????? I have never heard of that since I first use internet. I know some college might have restriction on internet using in dorms. But I don't know any other ISP has limit. Even the dial-up has no limit.

Back in a former online life, when I used to participate in distro via BitTorrent for a particular anime raws group (Hi iWolf, Ohgami, Murasaki!), I would get occasional notices from Verizon's shiny-new FiOS group to tone it down a bit (nearly 24/7 semi-automated leeching/seeding of ~200-300MB .avi files from the XDCC bot/Azureus, delete when torrent is properly seeded, repeat ad nauseam - all while maxing out the upload of my 15/2 line and downloading gigs of stuff I'd never watch personally). "Tone it down, or else," said Verizon FSC.
Idle threats though ~_~

I got the cheap 10 dollar Verizon Dsl and from what I have seen it doesn't have a download limit from what I can see. So I would most definately look into a possible new Isp.

The joys of living in the dorms... unlimited downloading....
The joys of living at MTU....100$ fines for downloading music and videos......
Really though back home our provider never limited downloading. Just find a new provider.

That ISP sounds like pure ripoff.
So you can actually go over the 2GB without any notice and then you have to pay?
Most ISPs I know that have transfer limits do something else, they bring your connection down to dialupspeed and that's it. O.o
Want your normal speed back? Wait until next month or pay a small fee, etc...
Btw, I remember sitting around and watching the cantha download go up to over 500mb before I got bored.

I live in the UK and use blueyonder, a 10/Mb line NO caps (except on uploads, which they don't like you using a lot of understandably).
I can download about 35 GIGABYTES per day (Via Giganews, the #1 usenet provider ^^), they don't say a thing. I simply don't understand capped downloads and unless literally forced into using capped, wouldn't consider it.

also I counted how much GWs downloads from a clean install and it's about 1.4GB.
