Is the 24 hour head start really that big a deal?
RTSFirebat
Well after thinking about this most likely I will be missing the 24 hour head start anyhow, since I'm getting my GW: Factions CE off a online store.
The thing is I'm really not fussed I'm going to miss the 24 hour head start. I mean really is there any massive advantage? Sure you can rush the whole expansion and get "high-end" weapons sooner. Or maybe go looking for good farming areas to keep to yourself before they are nerfed?
But still beyond that would waiting an extra day be really that big a deal?
To me... no. Just wondering what everyone else thinks?

What you don't want to beat all of factions a day before it comes out???

with apologies to Melvel
*just call me tourist*
a head start to me is meaningless as i am not in a race

I have preordered mine and going to play 24 hours before the release, but I wouldn't really care if I'd miss it. -> the more excited, the more fun you will have

Xenrath
There will no doubt be some people rushing to buy up a variety of things in order to help propel the prices skyward and then profit off it. Wonder what the odds are there will be farming builds posted during that 24 hours before "official" release date...
Snowman
because you orderd it on-line you shouldnt be penalised for it.. When I bought the original Guildwars ONLINE.. I was able to play early.
Im so excited about Factions I want to play it as soon as possible.. so yes, the day early for me is a MUST xD
not only that I have booked a day off for it!
but there are lots of other reasons.. for me, which may seem silly and un-important to you..
Prices on things will take a while to settle, so on the new materials there may be a definate price advantage.
somtimes some bugs slip in before they are caught or reported, so sometimes its fun to experience those... like a mission not working properly or some items with incorrect stats...
it may even be that drops in some areas might be wrong!
It may seem petty, but playing it before everyone else kinda makes ya feel a little special

Now starting early with Guild Wars was easy, you could download the client, but is that the same for Factions?

But my Ranger and Warrior will be coming along for the ride as well. My Ranger is my pride and joy and primary character, my W/Mo... is well a farmer
But thinking about it people will most likely try to buy up important materials to made profit from them, like amber and jade for example. Needless to say, I hope A.net has take that into mind to try and stop them.
Xenrath
That's kind of sad when you think about it; not knocking farmers (I've done some myself and even posted farming builds/videos) but I'd have hoped people would at least try to finish the chapter/get as far as possible first before turning it into Farm Wars: Chapter 2
But I just know I'll be proved wrong hehe

If theres no school that day

Just kidding...sort of. I don't know, if I am at school...as in at my dorm skipping class... then I'll be playing it with my Prophecies characters exploring and doing as many Kurzick quests and Alliance battles as I can to start getting the new 15k sets as soon as I can.
But if its the weekend and I'm at work...then I won't get to play at all and will be thinking about it the whole time I'm taking customers orders...did you say Medium size Necromancer sir? I don't think we serve those...

I'm not sure how much I'll actually play on Thursday, I might take Friday off and play all day then, though.

To me, it is. Mostly because when Chapter 1 released, me and my guildies and friends advanced through the game (both with henchmen and PUG's) extremely quickly because most players, especially non-beta players who hadn't learned to play yet, were still far behind. When we began running second characters through the game, we found the entire population to be downright incompetent (as it has remained).

If you have chapter 1 you have already downloaded chapter 2 before the FPE. You will have the game installed before it even comes out so no worries there.

It looks like I'll get the free day start from my preorder but get kicked off a few days while my CE ships.
I'll take my Prophecies characers over, with my 1400 plats, and buy up whatever seems low priced. Check the forums to see if there's anything bugged or HOD-like, stock up.
as an aside...........if I put in the pre-order key with the day ahead thing, that'll let me get into Factions (Cantha) without the regular retail version key right?

Overkill? I took the 27th AND the 28th off! :P
... then again, though, I need the downtime anyway because work is sucky.
That's 4 days of GW:F goodness when you tack the weekend on!
For me, it isn't about getting a head start to get ahead. It's just that excitement of getting in there and seeing it. It wouldn't matter if I had the head start or not - if I didn't, I'd be just as excited to hop on the servers on the 28th. For me, it's not that I'm on 24 hours ahead... it's that I'm *on* and I'm playing.

part of the problem is that we won't have new slots for the day ahead. So for most of us there isn't getting an early start on assn/rit. Just rich, fully-geared lvl 20's.

(although I have moved my pre-order three times trying to get the key)
Factions is the same, you download the client, but chances are you already have most of it from the FPE
Nevin
I'm skipping classes that day, and going to get plenty of sleep the night before (Going to bed around 7:00ish) and wake up around 2 A.M. I plan on utilizing that day to the max.
Mandy Memory
I beat all of prophecies within that 24 hours (well not really...i beat it the next day...before i bought the game anyways...)
Is it a big deal? not at all.

Well it seems most want to use their Level 20s to get the goodies in first, but we need to all remember that there is most likely 1000+ gold and weapon farmers who have the same idea.
For the first 24 hours (Now that someone has explained it to me) I'll use my Warrior, the my primary farmer and workhorse.

I REALLY wont be taking a lvl 20 in to start farming, I will be making a level 1 character and going through the story line and absorbing as much as I can in the time I have off before going back to work...
aaah.. it will be just like when Guildwars was first released
heavy metal rules
no its not important to me really, but to some people, they might find an item and start their usual bull feces( yeah i know lol) stating those famous words...wts UBER GODLY NEW (insert profession) weapon. for the usual 100k + whatever...and you know it will happen.

Zins and Rits born in Cantha will be lvl 20s and go through a small pre searing.
Only if your character is born in Tyria will it start as lvl 1.
