being a newby monk myself, (I have just ascended a couple of days ago) I asked the same question, and got a lot of answers.
I decided to go for Mo/E, basically because of the "glyph of lesser energy", which really helped with providing me with more healing power.
After ascension I have tried Warrior, which I did not like (probably not the right skills yet), but am now running around with a Mo/Me, and to be fair, I love it, I am using Energy Drain (Elite skill), and it is really very spectacular, draining the baddy of energy, and making it available to yourself.
In the end it depends on what kind of monk you want to become though. I have concentrated on Healing, and I have to admit, I really enjoy it.

hope this helps, this is obviously noob advice
Enjoy

Thank you, I was actually toying with that option & wanted to get advice from someone that had played it. Basically i wanted to make a good support/run toon to help my guildies I probably won't be able to do some of the runs, but it should help them out some anyway.
Thanx again,

Mo/Me as you have great energy managment. Two elites for it(MoR and edrain), and countless other skills as well(channeling, inspired hex, drain enchantment...). PvE wise this probably makes one of the most solid monks there is.

However i wouldn't advise using an elite for energy management (<3 woh for boon monking) unless it's really needed. Mo/Me was my first monk build and i was very pleased with it.

Mo/Me can also make a solid 55 if you ever choose to go that way. And once you ascend you can change between secondary's, so you can have your 55 build, your heal build, and your protect build.

Me and my crazy mind was thinking of making assassin secondary for Factions so you can teleport away when being hit.
However, mesmer is the best and will continue to be especially since necromancers' offering of blood now has 20% sacrifice. Not to mention in factions mesmers get an eltie that removes 2 hexes at once and has a recharge comparable to that of remove hex.

Good energymanagement and makes killing your doppelganger laughable

Then again i capped SoJ at lvl7/8. Taking henchman from droks through ice caves then fighting from iron mines was quite amusing. Even if i did die 80 times

It does let you piss around a bit too, my latest build for FoW is using Arcane Thievery, purely to keep me amused. Does get a bit annoying though when you steal Restore Life from Shadow Monks 3 times in a row or your Deep Freeze gets interrupted. You can also bring SV to protect yourself from insane warriors as it reduces there damage by a fair bit.
