Maybe. The shels are incredibally different, as are the pincers in both design and functionality... I think a-net just ripped a bunch of crap images and merged them sort of into that. That may be the most influential one though.

I had a crane during the fpe, got it up to lvl 15 and all untill it was replaced by the emoa (RED EYES FTW!!!)
Anyways, my crane's name was chancakes, which is kinda an in guild joke, so it probably means nothing to most of you For the record, this in guild joke is that though I am ranked as an officer in FFS, my W/R's pet Moa Bird, Sakura is actually ranked higher than the guild leader and guild lord. This came about due to her taste for hydras in the desert. We were all young and utterly rubbish at the game and were fighting Chack Huack Schmack and two of his lackeys. We killed the lackeys, but Chack managed to finish us off, only to be taken down by Sakura, moments later. After that, Sakura became a bit of a legend within the guild and amongst friends. Due to a popular cultural reference that im sure a lot of people will figure out, Sakura gained the nickname 'Teh Chan.' Since then, it has been customary for me, when I get a Moa Bird for a character to include the word 'Chan' in it's name. Latest to hit level 20 was my necro's Moa, The Chan Horror, which can be seen often leading a horde of disemboweled and beheaded Moas (Bone Fiends ) towards the enemy...

I hate the black Moa, It's the stupidest looking pet you can get imho. It wouldn't be so bad if they had left it's eyes green and didn't put all those retarded spike braces around it's neck and feet.
