I was just talking to a guildie who wants a 55 necro for fow farming. But I was thinking how does that work when you have 55hp and the mesmer does 100 damage with a shatter enchant?

The shatter enchant makes you lose prot spirit, and are thus no longer protected by it. Shatter enchant by definition causes a damage spike, and since prot spirit is gone, you die

Yes there is, you just have to make sure when you get shattered, prot spirit isn't the last enchantment you cast. This is called a "cover" enchantment.

like ^ said you dont cast it last, i.e cast prot spirit, then breeze, then guardian or something, guardian should be removed with the shatter. as far as soloing you will have to bring a hex remover of some sort and carefully watch for when ss is cast on you, if you trigger it, it will almost kill you and the mesmers and eles will be a pain too.

Triggering SS doesn't matter a bit, since you have prot spirit on you SS still only does 5 damage, which isn't a big deal. The thing that gives me trouble in FoW is the ele, as when you're tanking a lot, they make you burn, which kills your regen.
