photoshop? I'm not sure but this looked legit to me. So are they (game developers) all going to put this kind of message into their games to discourage users from playing too much? Imagine if Elder Scroll: Oblivion has this message installed so it flashed a red sign saying "You played too much, please take a rest"?

As long as they dont cut me off I couldnt give a crap. Hell I'll play non stop all day when Ive got no work! (might do this tommorow if you wanna have a laugh) I'll occaisionally have a cup of coffee or a sandwich. The best time to play in the Uk is during the weekdays as you get better PUGs!
Hell if they start cutting people off for being on too long THK and hells precipice will be even harder! The time I've spent waiting around in those places

We should have a contest, to see who can post a genuine "Please take a break" message with the highest number of hours (without using Photoshop).

Heh, I wonder if the message gets more urgent as you increase the hours.

I've only reached the 'you have been playing for 2 hours' so far. I just can't stay logged on with the same character long enough to get further

Perhaps its time to go afk in the guild hall overnight and see what happens

You have been playing for 92 hours, but astigmatism is gonna get you anyway once you reach 50 years old, so much HMO yet so little life spent in the glorious world of Tyria. Please keep on playing.

Now, somewhere, someone, is farming the biggest longest stretch of hours that they have been on continuously, and will post it on this forum as proof of their "accomplishment".

Just got my message about 5 minutes ago:

I don't recall how long I was actually playing. I do know that I logged in this morning and left the character sitting in Thirsty River lobby for about 1.5 hours. Then I started playing a bit after that.

I'm wondering if they track movement or just time since you logged in. I guess I could log out and back in to see if the counter is reset. They must be more sophisticated then that...

Its kind of weird the time is there as a Warning and I am sure silly people are going to start to post stupid things like, look been on for 24hours beat that, and crap like that.

We back to Kindergarten? Or maybe some haven’t left it yet.

If it warns you that you been 8 hours playing non stop, if I was you I would STOP and have a good look around.

And if u left it on just to clock 8hours or more than we back to the Kindergarten comment.

Just leaving my opinion.

Being an absurd insomniac, this sort of thing might actually amuse me late at night.

its sad that people are so irresponsible and unwilling to accept being at fault that companies must do things like this to protect themselves.

EDIT- Hey! I do that exercise bike thing! well sort of, I have a just front flywheel with pedals on it.(thats what one gets for working full time on a computer and playing video games at night.)

So true. People are so afraid of admitting faults, they would rather blame everyone ELSE in the world before they look at themselves. Its the Hot Coffee syndrome.

The funniest thing about all these "don't put your cat into the microwave" type of warning messages is not that they take us for completely stupid but that we are actually stupid enough to think they are necessary...

How braindead has the world become if a computer game now tells me not to play it anymore?

myself i find it very annoying.its bad enougth having hoh results keep flashing up while i'm adventuring, now this aswell.and you can't resist but look over incase its a guild/whisper message, which imo is very distracting to some players.

i do understand the legal issue theory but isn't that why most firms label there products with stand-out warnings, unlike the gw packaging.or do we think this is an effort to correct the mistake of not applying any health warnings to gw's box.

i hope they start labeling the boxes for factions and beyond so they can then remove this feature.or at least give us the option to turn it off, that way they are exempt, and also while i'm at it the option to turn off hoh results would also be nice.

Oh and to make real money I have this fantastic scheme I want you all involved with!! lol
just implement a fully working toilet seat and bidet into the excersize bike's seat, and while your at it, we may as well have a shower and a blow dryer to keep from stagnating

It took me reading through 5 pages and seeing multiple people post a screenshot to realize it actually says "please take a break" :/

I was 100% convinced somebody was just playing around with it. "Please take a break" just sounds... creepy... anet is not your wife/mother.

well i would like the /time feature...

not because i dont have a watch (whats whith humans and digital watches anyway? sure you dont have to wind them up, but get them too near water and pfft.....)
or because i dont have a clock....

i do have them....but i often turn off the main room light and play by monitor light (sincei have a 19 inch crt) and its just not feasable to make me shuffle over to the lightswitch in my sleepingbag in winter (its strange, i know but i dont have central heating in my house that works and its the most economical way to keep my legs and feet warm)....a /time feature would allow me to see what time it was where i am without havingto look about my desk lookig for my watch or my clock..i could just ask the machine what time it was.....
then type /timeplease and get how many hours i had been playing lol...

Wow...that's just sad that we live in a day and age when you have to post warnings on/in every single bloody thing. What's next I go to staples to buy a bundle of paper and it has a big warning on it "CAUTION! Papercuts may occur when you handle this product."
The more this inflitrates our society the more inept people seem to become. There is absolutely no onus on the individual anymore, it's always someone/or something elses fault. Say good bye to natural selection.
I personally don't care about the time thing(the longest I have played in a day is about 2 hours) ...I just find it somewhat insulting to my intelligence...and well...just plain sad that it's necessary.

Its an update as off today. It sucks doesnt it. I think its an attempt to stop players from playing for too long at a time, and loosing track of time. Not so much an issue in Europe and America, but i have heard that Korean and Chinese Government are having a real crack down on games based addiction. As if /age wasnt enough...

While this is helpful( my guild knows how many hours I spent on there ), it's sad that we have reached such a stupidity/irresponsability level that a game NEEDS to implement this. Plus, it's sad about that Korean couple, they honestly shouldn't play games if it's going to do that. You don't leave a 4 month old child alone. I'm 15 and I know that .

ROFL
Tears actually came from my eyes! That conjured inmages of you zipped up to your neck like a grub and playing through the sleeping bag, plus it is something that I would do (if I'd thought of it first)...

I think the warnings are a good idea. I'll likely ignore them anyway, but it would help for those nights when I do the whole "I'll play for one more 2-man UW run..."

It will probably help save my eyes (already had lasic so I sure they are prime targets for a degenerative condition). Sometimes they get to really burning when I play late at night...that is usually the sign that my wife has been asleep for hours and it is time for me to try and get in bed without waking her (she always has a hard time geetting back to sleep at 5am...go figure)

Warning deviating slightly from main topic: (but funny)

We all probably remember that old lady that sued McDonalds and got millions!! because she put hot coffee between her legs at the drive thru and then spilled it on her coochie and burned the whole area.

A guy in a Starbucks (in Seattle I think) was taking a crap and turned around to grab some tp when the toilet seat shifted and crushed the head of his peeper. >< ....ok that one is justified because the toilet seat was broken and the tp was on the back of the seat so he had to turn around...ouch, he crushed it good, with tons of nerve damage.

There was a coulpe fat girls in New York (I think) that tried to sue McDonalds because they got fat from eating that greasy pseudo-food. Good thing that one didn't stick.

There are many examples of this so I have no issues whatsoever with Anet trying to protect themselves (and by extension, protecting me) from the idiocy of others.

check http://www.stellaawards.com/2005.html for more ridiculous examples of the abuse of the American Justice System

EDIT:
That couple that killed their child (yes they did kill the child) deserves NO sypathy and will get none from me. Every morning when I leave for work my 2 yr old is upset. If I were to take my wife and leave our daughter would cry much before we actualy got out the door. I have never forgotten that I also have a 6 month old son and that he needs food on a regular basis. If I were so stupid as to go to an internet cafe (or anywhere) and leave him home for an extended period of time, I would expect to be jailed regardless of how long I was gone.

I HATE it when people leave their kids alone and think it is ok and that the kid will be just fine. This goes double when people leave their kids in the car at the store. GRRRRRRR!! I WILL call the cops when I see that happen.

EDIT: EDIT: I took out the ones that I had not checked on and they were bogus...

I'd like to say something about the whole people dying from playing too much.

People die from doing anything. A few people die playing videogames and their story gets published because people need a scape goat. People probobly die 100x as much getting hit by golf carts or wild golf balls.

Its the fact that the media chooses to blow the stories of gamers and stuff dying out of proportion, but when someone's neck breaks when they dive into a pool, it's not even heard of 2 counties away, and forgotten by those few who read of it 2 weeks later.

ive been playign games since sega and the origional sim-city and oregon trail (sime ant was badass), ive spent probably a collective 5 years in front of a computer screen, and so far im as healty as hell (apart from my deplorable eyesight, of which the past 7 generations of men in my family have had, so nothing new). i can (and have) played on a comp for 3, and on a few occasions, 4 days strait (bathroom breaks and occasional food not counted); and im alive and kicking (my social life might not be, but thats another matter).
the in-game parenting needs to go.
as for people dying from gaming...it just shows their dedication...if i had to chose a way to go, it would either be death by gaming, or death by a getting in a fist-fight with 3 greatwhite sharks and a grizzly-bear...on land...cuz thats as manly as hell.
we all die...life itself is a sexually transmitted terminal illness...get over it, and keep on gaming.

It is similar (flame me if you want to) to the Ford Explorer/Firestone issue a few years ago. There really weren't that many accients that were caused by faulty tires/vehicles. Most of them were because some idiot was driving 95 mph on tires with 14 psi. Hmmmm, explain why they flipped the car /sarcasm

Again similar to mountain lion attacks. People (the media) make them out to have happened all the time, but there are really less than 6 attacks per year (in US and Canada combined) and less than 1 death per year. California alone accounts for a total of .5 attacks per year and .2 deaths per year. So someone dies once in very 5 years from a cougar attack in Cali...that is not too shabby.

Personally, I think its good to have it, but make it an option so I can turn it off. I leave the game run sometimes without logging off. I don't want to come back from an hour break only to be bombarded by Anet telling me to take another :P
