Giving up on Guildwars
AetherDryth
ok! so, i posted loadsa crap about my machine and how shit dont work, however, ive realoaded my comp, new 80 gig hd [plus my other HD] new graphix card, 1gig of ram, so, i can play elderscrolls 4: oblivion, and anyone with a teensy bit of sense knows how hardcore the specs are for it. that runs fine, BUT GUILDWARS STILL CRASHES. so, i ask, WTF is up with this shit? eh!? EH!?

elderscrolls, hardcore specs, game made for 12 year olds. ever try the rubberband trick? as to the GW crashes, do you get a error code? ei code 007....

Maybe its network related. Do you have a firewall up? I know I've had issues with the Norton firewall in the past.

You posted two other comments, and it would appear both of them were in the sticky before it was closed....
But, anyway, a question for you. What is this comp? A self-built rig, or did you buy it from a vendor?
If I had to guess based on just the info provided, I'd guess you probably either have a crap PSU, or the mobo is crapping out and bad voltages are screwing things up.
One thing you might want to look for especially is capacitors that have blown out. The "caps" are the little cylindrical looking things that are soldered to the board. If they're going bad, they'll have either a domed top, or they'll be leaking a brownish/white foamy substance. The board might also smell strong of acid.
You might also want to check on other boards like sound cards or the gfx card as fluctuating voltages on them could also interrupt things.

i had this problem before but some reason i had to clock down my Ram one notch from 400 MHz to 333 MHz and it stoped it completely and as for Oblivion if you haven't seen TES 4 Oblivion i woulden't knock it man talk about a wicked game and no where neard made for 12 year olds it alot mroe in deth then GW and alot more to do theres something close to 100 different quests you can do and almost the same ammount of cave's ruin's and other things like that to explorer

Elder Scrolls 4 Vs GuildWars = Fruit vs Types of Rocks
Elder Scrolls is a rich (offline) RPG.
Guildwars is a CORPG (Hybrid PvP/PvE game) Online only.
(Note I feel both are highly rated well designed games)
Since GW is locking up and Oblivion is fine, it's leaning towards network (be it network card drivers, firewall, etc) since Oblivion is an offline game.

Sounds very much like a network problem, what's your modem/router specs? Connection info? Are you connected through a hardware firewall? Your computer on a LAN at all?
Wrath Of Dragons
definitely need to define "crash" better
Ctb
Elsewhere, he's indicated that he has no network problems when testing against other networked resources (which doesn't entirely rule it out, I know) and that he's detected abnormal voltages in the system. That's why I was leaning toward bad caps.
But, then, that assumes that "crash" is in the sense of a segfault or a random reboot, so I too would like to see a better definition of "crash".

Agree with other's what is the crash error, this should help zone in on what's crashing. Has Oblivion crashed at all?
stumpy
OP said Oblivion works fine, my guess is corrupted gw.dat file is causing it but ot be more clear I would like to know the following:
1. When does it crash?
2. How often does it crash (same spot all the time?)
3. Do you have any problems with any other ONLINE MMO's ... Oblivion is a bad comparison asstated for the above reasons.
4. How long have you been playing guildwars?
5. When di the issue start?
6. Are you behind a router?
If you can answer the above information it will help determine/troubleshoot your problem. The is no MAGIC WAND we can wave or cure all solution, there can be many reasons that it crashes, so please take the time and be a little more specific if you are really interested in getting some help.
