Yes! I have an ogre slaying knife that has +9 damage vs. ogres!

It would seem that way. Sadly, the Knife will likely still be worthless, from it's low damage. Still hanging on to mine hoping, though. .... Ok, you got me. I really just can't find anyone who will pay more than 1k for it. How'd I miss out when they were going for like 30k+?

it's actually a joke item (hence the low damage) but heres the mention of it on Guildwiki..
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Ogre-Slaying_Knife

Guild wiki was broken when i checked it, so heres what it says if it still broken.
Quote:
The Dmg +9 (vs. Ogres) property is purely cosmetic, as there are currently no monsters of the ogre species in Guild Wars.
This weapon is a reference to an audio skit made by the Dead Alewives, a comedy group. In the skit, which is about Dungeons & Dragons, one character proudly announces that he has such a knife - "It's got a plus nine against ogres!" This skit was reproduced in the game Summoner by Volition and, more recently, by 8-bit Theatre fans under the title 8-bit D&D
a confirmation of future Ogre's in the game has yet to be announced.

I think many of us were aware of that (I love guildwiki), but the OP's reference to an actual weapon mod. vs. ogres indicates that they are likely to be present. Anybody check if it was those hunchback things with the giant boil's on their back/necks (sorry I forgot the name)?

Hence why I think ogres are likely, but the Ogre Slaying Knife will stay a "worthless" joke.

There are many pictures (like 2...) in the Factions Weapon SS threads that show people who have found Ogre-Slaying mods and Oni-Slaying mods. I think its safe to say that there are Ogres in Factions. I know there are Onis...they kicked my butt.

I don't believe those boil people were Ogres. I have some screenshots of when I was fighting them, but they are on my other computer. I'd have to come back to this thread in a couple days to tell you the truth.

Yea, hell... Just 3 Oni run my party like havoc (until I abused their poor AI with ritualist item kiting). Not only that, they come out of no where (awesome). I was certainly not disappointed about the new monsters. I just hope there is more.

Will we ever see any monsters that would knock us flying? Hope so.

and Ettin are... ettin. They aren't giant as it was proven by some people out there. Not ogre either.

Err... actually, ettins are ettins. You can indeed get trollslaying mods, but they will be useless against ettins. What you want is an ettinslaying mod...

I'm not positive, but i thought the group of monsters in the begining of FPE were ogres. (the one eyed dudes right out of the city) they may have been ettins but i thought it said ogres...

Yes indeed they are giants. They are creatures of Anglo-Saxon mythology. giants with two heads, often ugly or deformed. If you look closely at the ettins you can see they have a sort of conjoined twins two headed look. Now as for their classification in game I have no idea but mythologically speaking they are giants.

Im looking forward to dragons.. since I have this weird obsession with them, and the rest of the oriental culture. I also had Mandarin lessons for 2 years, and went to China for 3 weeks- GW:factions and the new range of pets are going to be great

The Oni are a type of demon from Asian mythology. I don't recall any Oni-slaying items (there are Oni weapons, i.e. Oni daggers), but I did find demon-slaying weapons which I'm almost positive have bonus damage vs. the Oni. 30K for an Ogre knife?? Prices are way too inflated in this community as it is. Personally I wouldn't pay more than 3K for any item in the game. Period. It is way more exciting to fight my way through the hordes and have a green item flop out unexpectedly. Sometimes it's a total bust, other times it's a bonanza. My wife had 3 green items drop in HoH last night (the lucky jerk), one of which was the Ogre knife which she promptly sold for 35g. No sweat.

Partly true. Oni are also the Japanese version of ogres.

To relate the creations of the GW productoin team to that of traditional Asian myth, is just foolish. Who knows if the production team even took into account the historical background behind Ogres, Oni, or Demons? The point is, don't judge the tid bits of information revealed so far about Factions, with history. I mean, come on Factions isn't even out yet...

I believe that they just took the names of the monsters, and maybe used the historical stuff as models for how they behave.

I'm pretty sure they did. That is what a Research team does. That's why you can relate them to traditional asian myth. Why would they go through so much trouble for an asian theme without any research. That would just be irrisponsible of them to do so ESPECIALLY when the game is going to sell in the Asian market as well.

I mean, cmon give them some credit.
