Issue with your name?

Hello everyone, I have a small thing to discuss, well it may seem small to you, but it is important to me. If this issue has been discussed before, I apologize, I'm not familiar with forums.

I would like to be able to change my name, even if it's only once. I made my character very long ago, and I found out lately that there is a mistake in the spelling according to proper japanese phoenetics. My character is 20 with numerous skills, all missions complete and 15k armor which is dyed black. So I can't just make a new character considering the amount of time I've put in this one. Also, I don't believe in shakespears "What is in a name" theory, I believe that a name is important and defines a person. I realize many people may reply with rude statements about how trivial this sounds, but please have a bit of respect, this is important to me.
Thank you in advance,

Yukino

I know how you feel, a one-time name change would be so nice. My lvl 20 Warrior has been cursed with a misspelled name, and now she sits on death row, waiting for death when Faction comes out..... only the grace of a name change can save her life now.

They've stated pretty much directly that you'll never be able to change a character's name, due to potential abuse.

Sorry.

Sorry.
Which is why we should try to get people to reply and try to change their minds. And even if it's only once, I don't see how it could be abused too much.

Have you tried contacting the game's CS? I think that unintentional misspellings should be correctable as long as the two are spelled closely enough that you can't tell much of a difference. Since you have a japanese forum name, I'll use this as an example: Yoko. Often it is spelled Yoko but there are a few times (12 kingdoms for instance) that I've seen it spelt Youko.

And with the fact there are pvp characters and whatnot, I don't think an occasional cosmetic change would be a problem.

Maybe tack it on with the stylist NPC idea. For a price, you can alter anything about your PC but his primary class. Things like name changes and what not could cost more than a new hair style or color, but still be possible and if necessary, subject to GM approval. Since your friend's list it tagged by account, people will still know who's who.

the character name is a unique ID which makes it possible identify an account without any doubt - the namechange would allow scammers and other malicious elements to cleanse their name --- and even one time is more than i am willing to allow them.

two days ago we had a very promising recruit, but one of his names beared too much offensive potential that we could not let him join. when asked why he choose that particular name he replied: "couldn't think of something else." ironic? maybe a bit - but spending 15-20 minutes on a real name for your character will pay off every month you play with it.

one last idea: report yourself and tell a.net that you are offended by your own name - maybe you get flagged and are "forced" to change your name. (O_o)

Just start a new character. Put your mind to it, and you'll be lvl 20 in no time.

the name changing would work it would be like looking at your friends list and seeing what char they are playing on it has a different name the name change would work like that and it would come up like its a new char the account created or something but its already lvl 20 and the old char

heres a really bad idea how to change your name:
if you really want to change your name, make a really offensive name first, since you cant think of a good one at the time, then later when you think of a good name email anet about something then leave your offensive ign. then after a 24 hour suspension you get to change your name.

I see nothing but problems with this feature being abused if it ever was implemented. My advice is to double check before you hit that next button.

I deleted my first character purely becuase I didn't like it's name. I can see why you feel this way Yukino- but I can also see why Anet dont allow it.

Kitty, weren't you complaining about guild name changes costing too much? If you've got 15K armor a name change would be like having to buy 4-5 guild halls. Dying it black would be another pair of guild halls.

This heartless absolute mentality just pisses me off. Your ass-groove on the chair will still be there if you budge for a single moment goddamnit.

Your game identity is bound to your account, not your IGN.. which is why if you have one person's character on your Friends list, you will see them on-line even under other characters.

I think I already gave this idea Fred's Seal of Approval on another thread ... keep it limited, just in case, but still there.

GIVEN that there are STRONG measures to prevent abuse. An example I can think of would be preventing anyone from taking the old name for at least a week, and either allowing a limited number of changes, or charging a gradual fee. IE 1k for the first time, 1.5 the second, 2.5 the third, and so on.

you can make some of your friend report to arena.net your name, saying is against some random religion.

if arena.net believe that there is a function aready implemented who will allow you to change your name if arena.net consider it offensive
