Pacifism prevents attacking

Hi there,
with me ole ranger (which I only started a couple of days ago) I now get the following message popping up sometimes, which I have not seen with any other characters:
Pacifism prevents attacking

What does this mean, and what can I do about it.
Sorry for poss noob question, just curious

Pacifism and Amity {E} are both Hex Spells that prevent you from attacking for "XX amount of time"

only way to get rid of it is with hex removal

Notice also that these particular two hexes end if you take damage. ...so if you don't have hex removal you can still rid yourself of the hex if you can force the enemy to hit you (one example being to clump near the primary target when you know the enemy's using AoE).
