Everytime a guild post "inster guild name here" looking for members, we use 'insert chat client here'

you get at least three people who responed by some form saying " 'instert chat client' sucks."

Anyhow, not the point.
What I'm on about is:
Do you use a Chat/Voice Client
If So what kind?
How does your guild make use of it?

If you don't, how effective is your guild in communicating?
Why don't you use a chat/Voice client?

finally,

what are your opinions and preferences on chat/voice clients?

We use TS and everyone in the guild is required to be on TS when they are online. Because we have 8 guilds, we need to use TS to communicate and guest between guilds until Alliance chat gets implemented.

Our guild uses Ventrilo, and it helps for quick communication in GvG, and regular communication while questing, etc.

So do you guys think voice clients will become more of a 'requirment' with alliances?

I have a really small guild (capped at 16 people) and we use Ventrillo all the time. In fact I log into the vent before GW to find out what everyone's up to.

Even if you're doing your own thing (RA, farming, whatever) we usually hang in vent and chat, it makes for good guild bonding and allows us to share ideas and RL events as they occur.

Some kind of voice chat is almost a necessary as far as I'm concerned. Even PvE guild can utilise it for in-game purposes, especially in high-end areas like FoW and UW. There's plenty of free servers out there that you can use and lots will let you set up your own channel for a modest donation.

Our guild uses lexicon gaming vent - we made a small monetary contribution to the running of the server and thus, are 'sponsored members' now, but we were freeloaders for many months before.

We use TS, and since we're mainly PvE, we use it during missions and whatnot...nothing spectacular, but it's a LOT easier than typing. We try to persuade the people without mics to get one if they can afford it, and if they don't have one to at least sit in TS with us so we don't ALL have to type out strategy...

Alliance chat helps a lot. For inter guild communication allince chat is probably enough, but for missions and such I think you need to have teams on voice comms in order to excel.

I'm going to assume that you are an officer in your guild.
Our alliance is only made up of two guilds at the moment - the first being our base guild, the second being a sister guild that we opened with the release of factions.

We were all excited about the idea of alliance chat, then when it came out we realized that only officers and leaders could type in it

That leaves a gap there for our newer guild which is lacking on officers.
Thus leaving us in strong need of guild members to get on TS.

TBH, only idiots use Ventrilo.
It's so easy to packet someone via Ventrilo it's not even funny.
Teamspeak is much better.

Depends on what your trying to do.

Vent runs faster.

Teamspeak is nice GUI and runs as little slower.

Never used cup and string.

Isn't it tin can and string??

Our guild uses Vent. But I have yet to install it myself, it just seems unimportant since I mostly solo anyways.

then why are you in a guild?

sorry.. whole different subject there.

I've never used vent, I know we went with TS because we knew how it worked, and how to mod settings for people on dial up and othere things that come our way.

And it seems that the only people we've had complain about TS in the guild have gotten themselves kicked for other reasons.

A bit off topic but... I like to be able to chat a bit in game, ask questions, answer questions. I am also more than willing to help out a fellow guildie if I'm able, just because I prefer to solo doesn't mean I wont group.

lol. Our guild uses Ventrilo. It's a lot easier to setup and the voice quality is 50000x better then TS.

Our guild has both a TS and Vent server running. Vent has much better sound quality but laggs rather badly when our Australian guild members use it. TS breaks up a lot more and the voice quality is a lot worse but long distance comms seems a lot smoother (from UK to Australia via a USA server). Therefore, we use vent for UK/Europe only comms and TS when our Aussie cousins are online.

The fact is that TS isn't greater than Vent or vise versa. It all depends on the server running it. Every Vent server I have been on sucks, all voices sound deep and manly even if its a woman speaking. The TS server my guild uses is run by our partner guild. The leader of our partner guild hosts it as he works for a hosting company and usually we come through sounding "normal". On occassion we have people who either haven't updated their sound drive or have incorrect settings and we either sound funny to them or vice versa.
This is easily fixed.
Vent is far more complicated than it should be, and anyone new to TS can use it rather easily and without complaint. If their settings are wrong it takes us no time to set them straight.

We only use the TS server when we want to chat, hang out, mission, pvpish stuff. I have also been on some crappy TS servers where everything is fuzzy and just slow. But I have been on some Vent servers that run the same.

Comparing the two is like apples and oranges - it all depends on the ripeness and what you personally prefer.

I haven't used a tin cup and string since I was 6.... If you've used it and you find it greater than TS... Well... Maybe you need to upgrade ...something >_>

We have a guildie who is deaf and thusly cannot use either. It is not a requirement in our guild but it is HIGHLY suggested. If they cannot have a mic they can usually just listen in and that's good enough for us. We do not demand that any of our guildies have/use it.
