Mog's Mesmer Highland Games 2006
MogRuith
Ladies and Gentlemen! Announcing... the Mesmer Highland Games!!
As I'd been hinting at before, there's going to be a new event, sometime in the summer, with a more Scottish theme to it. This time, there's going to be competitions for mesmers, and maybe others to compete in.
My projected date for now is Saturday, July 8th, 2006. I chose Saturday because, for the most part, no matter what time I choose, most folks will have the ability to play, no matter where they are. This time I want to choose a more suitable time for Europeans as well as Americans, though.
I also chose July because 1.) it's summertime, 2.) folks like myself are on vacation, 3.) it's plenty of time in the future for folks to prepare themselves for the competitions.
The competitions I'm thinking of are this:
Highland King and Queen
Mesmer Art (Original Pictures, Video, Music, Poetry) Competition
Mesmer Sync Dancing
Best Dressed Mesmer
Joining the competitions will cost 250g a person (maybe a reduced price for dancing troupes), submitted at least 72 hours in advance of the competition. Submissions for Mesmer Art Compeitions must be received within 12 hours of the competition.
Some mesmers have expressed some concern about the 250g admission fee, but as has been suggested, it's a great way to keep griefers from joining the competition. It's inevitable that they will come to the event itself (however, last time we were lucky) They'll also be used to buy prizes for the competition winners, such as Ectoplasm, black dye, or shards or something. (I'm thinking an Ecto or Black Dye for First place, a Shard for Second place, and perhaps 1.5k-2k for Third place)
I need to start contemplating a time that would be good for Europeans and Americans alike.
Advice and ideas for how to proceed with the competition would be very welcome.
I'm also looking to interview for judges! If you think you'd make a good judge, please send me a PM explaining why you think you'd make a good judge.
~Mog Ruith of Armagh
PS. Pardon me if something doesn't come across properly - I'm in a bit of a hurry. And I do hope this is a good place to put it. =] I just want to have mostly mesmer feedback right now.

Nice! I'll be there again with my 2 mesmers

Gonzo
Well this all depends on how my mesmers will develop (will make it in Faction as my second new character) and if it is able to come around, but if not I'll come and have a look with another char.
Woutsie
Don't have a mesmer but I'll come take a look
Oh btw, Mog, this is Shinto Kay here ^^

"OMG, FoW is SOOO last year! 15K Kurzick FTW!"
Picture credit goes to Findariel. Whom, if she shows up to the party, I expect to win hands down. She is the goddess of mesmer fashion.
Personally, I haven't decided if my female mesmer's going to get that set. It's a bit too frilly for my tastes, possibly. I'll have to see it in game first. I don't like full female mesmer FoW that much either, except for the leggings, which pairs nicely with 15K Rogue.
(Is it just me, or of all classes, are the mesmers the harshest critics of each other's wardrobes?

Whew! I'm doing a lot of posting in other forums, so if you're like me, and you're attending several, you must understand when I start repeating myself among them.
First of all, I'd like to thank the moderator for correcting me on my posting to the wrong forum. Forgive me, I'm a newb here.
No joke! It will definately be interesting to see what those with new armors will come up with. Though, considering many of us have varying opinions on how good the armor in Factions is, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll win based on that alone.
Also, don't forget! Dyes may also create a whole new illusion for old armors which may take the prize!! I'm pondering on a new outfit myself.
Definately! Dude, I was so hanging around on the boat, gloating about my new dye. Everyone thought I was a freak! (I'm pretty sure you were there...) I'm definately very fashion conscious! And I'm definately not afraid to go around looking at other mesmer's outfits and judging them, as you have seen. (Go get collector's, you fashion demented fool!
)
Anywho, here's where I get repetative...
New Details:
I've got a few more details and thought I'd post them for debate. If you think all the bolding is a bit odd, well, I'm doing it because I know when I write in paragraphs, they only get scanned... So I'm making important parts easily scannable.
(The technical writer side of me is showing...)
I think last time there were quite a few people who would have rather liked the event to take place in Lion's Arch. So this time, it will take place in Lion's Arch International District 1, most likely in that area where there's a large circle on the stone floor with patterns and such on it. (Opposite of the map from the Merchant's area. Close to the skills vendor.) If we have sync dancers, their dance will take place in the center of that circle to be admired by all.
Also, I'm starting to look around and get ideas for how I'm going to host submissions. My decisions will be somewhat weighted by how many people are planning to join (even if you're not really sure at all.) I'm thinking I could find some webspace to host the participating submissions. Because I'd like to get an idea for how many may be entering, would you please send me a PM so I can start keeping tallies on how many submissions I can expect? Even if you're not sure you're going to be submitting, just send one anyway!
Please start making arrangements for admission with me if you know you're going to join in a competition. The sooner I get admissions, the earlier I can start collecting prizes for the winners. (I'm already trying to collect, but I also don't want to go into the red when supporting this event.
)
Please don't be alarmed that I'm asking for the admission money so early on. I'm not trying to take your money like a greedy jerk. I'm going to be keeping a public log of those who give me money, and how much money they gave me so that if the competition falls through for some reason, you will have your money back. I also don't plan to keep the money for myself if I end up with more admissions than prizes - all that means is better prizes!! If I don't follow through with my promises, you may use my public log against me to hold me accountable.
I'm still in need of judges! So please, if you feel you'd make a good judge, send me a PM saying why you'd make a good judge!
In Summary:

Mesmer: "Hey, everyone, look at my new armor/dye mix!"
Other mesmers: "Ooooh!" *mass flocking of mesmers ensues to gawk*
Everyone else: "Freaks."

Okay, I'll stop it now before I drag this thread wildly off-topic.
MogRuith
I'd like to post the official time and place for the event:
Saturday, July 8th
Lion's Arch, International District 1
11am Pacific/12pm Mountain/1pm Central/2pm Eastern/7pm GMT
I'm still willing to make adjustments for this time, so any suggestions towards a better time would still be appreciated. Also, I haven't heard from any contestants, so far. If I don't hear anything soon, I'll be opening the competition open to non-mesmers, as well.

Could you please edit your main post so we don't have to search through the thread for updates?
Rayne Nightfyre
I'll consider taking part in this.

Nevin
I may be stopping by also.
