Why is this thread closed....

Is this even allowed/tolerated.... The thread about the use of a certain symbol that is questionable? I mean, we were not fighting, we stayed on topic, and people even wrote they were learning things... What the hell else do you want? It wasnt turning into a religious battle either... yet. It was a good talk about an importan issue that your moderator's shot down.

The thread was closed for two reasons:
(1) The original poster falsely postulated that the symbol in question is a Nazi swastika which it is not. While the thread suggests that most players will mistake the symbol in that manner, I feel that such a belief does not take the various other meanings into consideration.
(2) The thread was turning into a political discussion/personal attacks. We appreciate that people have a desire to discuss politics, but ultimately we are a gamer forum for Guild Wars.

Hold on hold on.... So we put in our thoughts, which was the point of the thread, and because YOU think something else, automatically means close it? Isnt the reason we post threads to get the thoughts of others? If you thought different you should have posted it.
The thread must go into a somewhat political discussion at some point, that symbol has that background... Come on these excuses are pretty weak, and frankly dont do a damn thing for me. You took a perfectly good topic and closed, "just because".
How about you move it to Off topic, and reopen it? Can we do that? Or do I have to start the topic all over again, of course without the old posts?

Yeah, we're going to close down any thread that degenerates into "shut the **** up" (which was in fact posted by you) and "your a moron" (sic). Oh, and if you'd take the time to read the guidelines, we don't allow political discussions anyway.

This is a Guild Wars discussion forum. Not politics, not where people live, not what people believe in. If a thread has to go into politics that deeply, then it is not appropriate for this forum. We do not allow political threads even in Off-Topic, as they become flamefests that would require several mods to police it 24/7.
I've tried in the past to keep some highly-charged discussion threads open, but what I found was that there was absolutely no way of keeping them open and flame-free without becoming a sleepless zombie. Even well-known forum posters are known to snap over a particular topic, and we're not going to wait until that happens to this thread.
We're sorry if you feel that it was a valid discussion, but it would draw the sort of "constructive conversation" that is not what this forum is here for. That thread was changing from a discussion about the use of a symbol in Guild Wars to a cultural debate/discussion. There are other forums more suited to that than Guild Wars Guru.

Sometimes I think of forums as Facsist forms of government. Speak out your strong opinions and get shut down =p
I guess I can understand that but it annoys alot of people seeing how nobody ever gets 'hurt' by anyone's posts most of teh time. We just want to express our feelings! lol But oh well. Just ignore I guess. =p
Those aren't swastikas... First off those are also used in different religions, just because you see it doesn't mean NAZI entirely. Wierd languages they have, though. =(

Although I feel like I'm reiterating most of the points already made...
Not everyone is mature enough to handle discussion concerning things like this, which is why we keep the discussion strictly to in-game material. Since there was no valid basis for discussion (i.e. that the symbol was not the offensive symbol) the thread headed out of GW and into politics and religion. In my experience here, such threads attract the attention of users who simply cannot discuss things reasonably and will ultimately just tear down such threads regardless.
While discussion is good, we prefer the discussion here to be kept to GW, and in the case of off-topics posts, away from religion. It keeps us from getting monstrous headaches and keeps the boards' topics where they're supposed to be.

It is a privilege, not a right.
