Difference between Reduce and Absorbtion Damage ?

Absorption is only vs. physical damage, according to GuildWiki.
Well then, Guildwiki's wrong because Absorption runes reduce damage from any attack, regardless of its damage type. For Absorption, an attack is either damage from an equipped weapon or from a skill classified as an attack, such as Eviscerate. (Ew. That whole article is so wrong. Off to change it.)
"Reduces damage from attacks. (Non-stacking)", from Ascalon or Knight's armor, is a global -2 damage. Although its description also says attacks, it actually works against most sources of damage, including spells. There are a few skills which it doesn't reduce damage from, like Giant Stomp.
"Received damage -x" from shields works against all damage, even the ones that Ascalon/Knight's won't reduce damage from.

It's all situational.
If you get hit 100 times for 3 damage, then with a major absorb, you'll have taken 100 damage.
With a superior, you'll have taken 0 damage.
If you get hit 100 times for 20 damage
Major takes 1800 damage
Superiour takes 1700 damage...
100 damage is like 1 healing sig. You win 2 seconds worth of attacking.
Not much but it still is a difference.
This difference can sometimes mean survival or biting the dust.

I would also add that the case of taking 1-3 damage from a large number of mobs is common in many farming locations, so for solo farmers it helps quite a bit. I could tell a difference when I finally got mine.
The second example, hit 100 times for 20 damage, is more common if playing in groups clearing maps. I wouldn't bother.
For PvP it's an unlock and fairly cheap, it may one day make a difference.

Imo only get a Superior Vigour/Absorption if you have the money.
If you intend to use your char to do the droks run or somet, get the Sups as quick as you can, it WILL mean the difference between life and death at some point. Just like spending that extra bit of gold on a decent shield. Even if its just gonna be the collectors +45/-2 in stance. Hell i have 1.3mil and i can't be arsed to buy Sup Vigours for my last 2 characters because they cost alot more than when i got em for the others, maybe im just cheap though

you can't grind and/or buy your way into being good. Even the
best equipment is only slightly better than anything else. If you
want to get good, you have to learn to play. It least I hope so,
because I'm poor as dirt and have little chance to get rich.

I don't believe that Absorption is only physical/attacks. The way i see it armour/runes is everything that armour effects. Reduced from shields is everything, armour ignoring or not.
Also when your talking about +xx damage on attack skills i think it adds that damage onto whatever your base damage is. So if from absorption/shield your target ends up doing 0, but infact its -4 (less than 0, not 4 damage) it adds the +xx onto that, so it looks like it effects the +xx damage. Least thats how i think it works, works for me anyway...

Absorption is only attacks.
Also the damage is calculated before absorption is applied, because it is applied last. Therefore you could:
1. get hit with an axe attack that would do 20 damage.
2. it hits your armor and is reduced down to 0 (Big jump...but w/e...maybe you have 500 armor or whatever)
3. the +42 from eviscerate is applied.
4. absorption is applied to the 42 damage you would be taking.

. Also, if you're planning to take your PvE char into PvP, it's sort of a requirement to have max everything. I don't think the extra 9 HP from my Major Vigor to the Superior was worth the 30k, but I paid anyway =PZ

Not to mention it becomes even more valuable versus a spike team, the higher HP the better.
Note regarding first post: Absorbtion is applied to + damage.
