Rant on Korean 55 mo's (uw)

Okay I'm fed up. I grouped with a korean monk today because I could'nt find a european person. I try not to as a rule anyway but sometimes it's quiet - you want to get started you know?..

So: I accept invite, pay 500g and ask 'Do you need br?' - If mo does'nt I take desecrate enchantments in its place (should have blessed sig!). No answer, he zones us in. We kill the first few aaxtes after me running round like a looney because he would'nt stay still and kept handing me aggro. Then we kill the darkness's and he says 'You give me all ecto ok' Im already angry at this person so I type 'F__k no. Thats bs' Then he types 3:1. I reply 'no! 1:1' So the spitefull ass runs off and works it so he deliberately blocks me with Aaxtes so that he can go solo smites.

This is'nt intended strictly at every korean guildwars player - I realise it's not just them, and I realise it's not all of them; and im not picking on Koreans for the sake of it. But to be truthfull I can simply say that there are a large majority of korean monk players using the european servers ripping people off in the underworld. I can say in all honesty the following:

- Most of them dont speak english - you cant communicate with them. If you ask a question for example. 'Do you have sb?' they just say 'yes' you get down there and you see them zealots and run at the nightmares which works half the time, and half the time he's dead if more than one nm pops up.

- No korean has ever honoured 50/50 with me.

- Rather annoyingly, they have a habbit of opening trade soon as an ecto drops for you, demanding 3k.

- They make the run harder for yourselves by using SoJ and AoE such as Bal aura, SoW. This slows down smite attack rate. This then means they loose energy less quickely. They end up smiting SS straight off - even if you try suffering to cover they still make it alot harder for you because you cant always hit that cover in time. AoE makes foes scatter.

The bigger problem with this crap is that it starts to make people hate, buyest etc. Loads of Korean farmers ripping people off, using solo builds when it should be two man, this makes alot of european players wary. Then alot of european players start not sharing with those Korean players that do actually share - everyone gets an attitude. We start annoying them back and relationships become bitter.

I cant actually think of a solution but I would be in favor of Anet taking some measures to prevent or deter this. Imo being able to report people for ecto scamming would be nice but Im realistic and dont expect them to deal with 100's of problems like this.

So am I being over the top here? Because I swear it really is that bad - every time I party with one of these people - not that I will again, I'd rather wait half an hr.

Morale of the History? Don't group with koreans.

Farm with your friends.

I don't think any nationality has cornered the market on being a jerk.

I agree that the behavior was wrong but it bothers me to single out an entire group of people based on experiences with a few players.

There's a lot of that here ... notes about Chinese farmers, Korean monks, etc. And, in some forums, I've seen people complain about the lack of English skills - or even to make fun of that lack - by someone who speaks another language. I can't help but think that - even the worst examples of English - are so much better than I could do if I tried to communicate in Chinese or Korean.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of stereotyping, a lot of attacks based on where someone lives.

It's almost as if people were saying "I only want to be around people just like me."

The beauty of the Internet is that - in theory at least - it removes boundaries and lets us meet folks from all over the world and get to know them.

This all makes me sound as if I am preaching and I do apologize for that. So this isn't aimed at the original poster at all. It was just another example that finally made me want to say something about this.

yea there are all kinds. heck I went down the other day and even though I paid 100% of the travel cost they still expected me to fork over all my ecto to them. Whatever... as a rule You keep what drops for you period. on occasion if the guy is really good I may divy up something for him if something decent didn't drop for them, especially if they paid something for entry. BUT... Most consider this a gratuity, not a requirement. Those that DEMAND 50/50 or worse 75/25 prob have the area so farmed out that nothing ever drop for them anyway. so you know what? tough titty says the kitty, but the milks still good.

=O OMG people out there actually request 3:1 drop ratio?!! That's ridiculous.

The worst I have ever experienced was a 55 who said "you give me bow" when a gold storm bow dropped for me.

I usually only farm with friends now, though. But the occasional time I do pick up a random 55, I always expect the worst. That way if they turn out to be decent, it's a nice surprise.

Haven't had any of this on American servers... as long as you say "50/50" any time before the second ecto drops, no problems whatsoever.

But I haven't farmed UW in about 2 months... maybe things have changed.

im sorry but can someone tell me when this "im entitled to your drops" BS came about ?

last i checked whoever it dropped for, was whose it was ... ive been on the waaay short end of that most of the time, but ive always been happy for those that got the items..and darn sure never demanded half.

to those that this became a job to, it is ruining it for others that its still fun. nationalitiy has nothing to do with it though, as ive seen it from all types

Make a N/Mo and take along Vital Blessing. It may not accomplish much, but it'll make you feel better.

Bottom line is this, if you want all the ecto's that are dropped then go by yourself,
I can just see me asking everybody in a PUG to hand over all ectos, shards,
sapphires, and rubies plz.......ya right, that is plain rude and selfish....
I do lots of 2-3 manUW trap runs, and we do not divy up all the ectos, just
the luck of the draw, and if we invite someone along, we pay the entry fee,
no asking for 333 gold plz.....

Or Symbiosis or Fertile Season. If you pay for part of it, and someone wants to play games like that, despite not supporting griefing usually, this time, I'll turn the other cheek <_<

For real. Trap groups never whine about distribution of wealth, at least none I've ever been in. I also never ask for a split on the entry fee because even if I get no ecto I'll get at least one chest and a bunch of other miscellaneous drops that will pay the 1k and then some.

Tbh, farming UW over and over is for the greedy. I don't see why you're surprised (especially if you consider this guy might be one of those sweatshop farmers we always hear about)

I'm not saying this guy did anything I don't disapprove of, but I really don't think you're in the position to rant/complain/etc. about it. Just solo it yourself.

I usually spam that you must have Spellbreaker to go with me. If I dont see Spellbreaker used within the first minute i ditch them. I'd rather waste 500 gold than screw with these guys.

Usually when I go UW, it's a trap group, and I've never EVER heard of this drop split. It's usually just ":O!" "grats!" "I never get anything T.T" never "You should give me that because you wouldn't have gotten it without me". If that's how they want to be, then the griefing has already started.

Usually I do split the cost of entry, though. 250g comes back REAL fast.

But they have lots of good lookin women!

I too had this happen to me, sept i dont die too easy and i ended up following him to the smites where i "inadvertantly" lured a nice big group of coldfires on him and he died :P

I'm Korean and I make the Necro pay full entry, and I always take all ectos, and demand 3k for their drop if they get one and decide not to give it up, and I dont speak english, and I try to sell your gold drop to you when it is assigned for you, 30k ok?

I'm not really Korean, but if so I probably would.

...anyway. It's not about Korean 55mos. It's about 55mos and their superiority/small man's syndrome. 55 monks came into existence, and a lot of them devloped this 'WHO'S THE HEALER NOW, HUH?! WHO'S DEALING THE DAMAGE NOW, SWORD BOY?!' idea. One cannot make a monk without losing their sanity and developing these feelings of ultimate POWAAAHHHH[/gayle].

...right, long story short, it's not about him being Korean. He's just a jerk.

The solution is you agree to give them your drops. When one drops for you, don't give it to them. If they want to leave because of it, then fine, you came out ahead. Granted its still better to just find someone who won't screw you.

Problem is that you can't protect yourself in this way because most of the time when you join up, they will see you aren't an N/Me and won't want to go. Not saying that SS/SV is the only way to do it, just the most widespread and expected.

Now that I have a monk, I'm going to see how far I can counter-grief the monk griefers without being a griefer myself.

Splitting drops is nonsence, regardless of the ratio. You already have 50% chance to get the Ecto when one drops, don't make it any harder. Farm with your friends or with people that seem nice. Don't pay the 500g untill you've had at least a decent conversation.

And this type of stuff happens, you can't help it.

When I duo the UW with my friend, our rule usually is:

If you get the ecto, you pay for next entry.

If we both get one then thats cool, then whoever is the richest pays

The only time i ever split is when im with my friends, and i know they will pay or give me the other ecto.

I wouldnt risk it on strangers until we've done quite a few trips (and you are no longer really strangers).

Same problem with korean 55's on american servers.
I've grouped with several of them and not ALL of them were bad althought out of maybe 15 or 20 times only like 2 were tolerable. Most of the time they can barely speak english, they know how to say; yes, no, br, and ecto.. and thats it. some times they purposely try and and get you killed, which really sucks.
However, I recently joined a guild of 55s and SSs, so i can always find a decent partener now.
P.S. It's the norm to split ecto 50/50 in 2 man UW teams

Might be norm but its a crappy norm. Drops are intended for the people they drop for. Thats why it has Phaern Majes written all over it. And until I see otherwise its mine and all mine For the record I'm not greedy....

It's just a game. You should have already known about how people can act in underworld and you risked it by gonig with someone who you didn't know.

I'm just wandering if the guy was really Korean since people out there cannot tell the difference at all, for some odd reason, between Korean and China/Japan's writings. The writing doesn't look the same at all and most people on these boards keep saying Korean farmers when it's actually Chinese farmers.

i like to kill them with suffering/smite hex spikes.

The American ones are... how much better?

Which would tend to indicate that, to most people, the writing looks the same
