why is there such a brisk key trade in drok chat?

where the hell do all these keys come from --- one guy had 250?

Each area has its own keys.
The keys come from drops or you can buy them from the trader.
The person you saw might have been collecting them to start selling once he has a full stack (250)

The keys open chests. IMO (as well as others) starting at the southernshiverpeaks and moving on is worth it for keys.

Ascalon, Krytan, Steel, Magumas and desert keys are useless since the chests do not drop anything worth it.

Shiverpeaks, miners, phantom, obsidian and darkstone are worth it to keep or buy to try your luck to see what drops from chests

Because many players (and farmers) are fed up with the overwhelming odds of getting crappy chest items in the Southern Shiverpeaks, so instead of wasting those keys on chests themselves, they'll try to get a little profit out of each by selling at 400~450g instead of 300g at merchants.

Yes, they get them from Trolls and figure 90% of the time they make more off the key tyhan the drop from chest.
