Not sure if you've seen these...

Found them on the Gw Jap website.

Shiryo: (The big bad guy)
"The Afflicted"
"The Wardens"
"The Naga" (I think)

Cool pics.
On another note, interesting how it's okay to use the term "Jap" but other racial slurs aren't tolerated.

is jap a racial slur or just a shortened version like euro?

Think Devona dual wielded in the cinematic trailer too. Not sure though.
Those "the Afflicted" look like the flood from halo

I think calling someone a "Jap" is still considered a racial slur... but it depends on the context.
Here, it's obviously an abbreviation, and not being used in a derogatory sense.

I always love seeing the interpretations of the characters on the GW-Japan/Taiwan sites. Radically different. (Cynn doesn't look like she wants to make BBQ out of someone, Mhenlo is in full Dragonball Z mode, etc.)
Bastard Son
Didn't mean to hijack the thread in regards to the usage of "Jap." My apologies. I just wanted to point it out.
Let's get back to Factions talk!
Those Zit Monsters are nasty looking! From that pic of Devona, I was thinking it'd be sweet if Warriors could dual wield swords as per daisho (paired swords like a katana and wakizashi... long and short). But, that would probably bring the question of balance into play. Like D&D though, there could be disadvantages to dual wielding swords (lower hit percentages for both weapons).

Maybe you could offer a short sword "shield" with unique warrior skills? (Like "shield bash" but with a short sword?) Just an idea, not sure how it would be balanced...
XeNoGeArZ
Oh man the Afflicted have got some major tumor growth going on ...
who is man enough to take care of those guys? Tumor-growin' monsters need love too. <3<3<3

Having a warrior dual wield would be in the spirit of the Asian theme (i.e. samurai, etc). I dunno... just a thought.
Can you imagine hitting one of those Afflicted things with something sharp and pointy? *POP!* Ooooooooooze

Met some of the Afflicted on the way from the Marketplace to Cavalon. Nasty things... they explode when killed. I'm pretty sure that's it's Putrid Explosion but can't say for sure.

Devona Dual Wielding is from the betas, when there were some 2 handed "dual wield" weapons that got removed, for whatever reason.

balancing issues,
btw you got a dual wielder now... no need to moan about it

You mean those lady daggers that comes with the lady handbag and tampons? Those things are shorter than manicured nails. I want my warrior to be able to dual wield the legendary Long Swords of Compensation

That's Devona from the Prophecies intro movie. I was always a bit disappointed after that movie when you saw her with her big hammer.

So you say the afflicted explode when they die.... HALO FLOOD CARRIERS... not a bad thing though, still waiting for Halo 3, Halo the movie(s), The graphical book, and I got the books to read and it'll be a good time wasting the afflicted

Actually samurais fought with a katana. They didn't dual-wield and they certainly did not use shields.
Which is why I think it would be cool if warriors were allowed to wield two-handed swords. Come on, don't you think it would look awesome?

I don't see why the Jitte is used as a sword. I always thought it was an offhand dagger thing used to catch the attacker's sword in, so then you could do a lethal thrust, but we saw it in factions as a sword...

I guess they could have made it a shield, but I think that would have confused even more people... ("why does this shield look like a dagger?")

/me thinks mesmers should use laser pistols...that way they're useful for something ( It's ok to flame me, I'm using Ward vs. Harm! )

As for the afflicted, I think they have an Innate Explosion that acts exactly like Putrid. I don't think there is anyway to actually stop it. Probably to keep people from farming them, though I don't see how that is really possible since they always travel in "balanced" mobs.
Bahumhat
The Afflicted reminds me of the Flood in Halo and Halo 2.

"A wakizashi (Japanese for "sidearm") is a traditional Japanese sword with a shōtō blade between 30 and 60 cm, with an average of 50 cm (between 12 and 24 inches), similar to but shorter than a katana and sometimes longer than the kodachi. The wakizashi was usually worn together with the katana by the samurai or swordsmen of feudal Japan. When worn together the pair of swords were called daishō, which translates literally as "large and small"; dai or large for katana, and shō for wakizashi. The katana was often called the sword or the long sword and the wakizashi the companion sword." ~ Wikipedia
Wakizashi = Samurai Off-hand - but still a sword

There is a style that does, called Niten Ichi Ryu (roughly translated; Two heavens as one), but it's pretty unique. (As I mentioned in another thread about Shiro.)
Oh, and yeah, WoW certainly doesn't own the copyrights to ancient mythological creatures. ^_^

The one of Devona is from this video and she is in fact hold dual swords, not knives.
The video was made before Chap 1 was released, me thinks

I would imagine that warriors were stopped from dual-wielding so that the Assasins could have something unique (and to distract us from their stick-like nature).
