yeah it gave me the -20hp one

I meant the other quest Simon gives you, I keep forgetting the name of it.

Cities of ascalon give 2 items as reward.
1 is the -50 hp focus.
The other is 1 of 2 things, a -20 hp focus or a -5 energy foucs (random which one it is).

*nods* Also, if you're going for a dropped focus with -energy, find one with 6 or less base energy; if it has any more, not meeting the requirement drops its base energy to 6, meaning you'll actually gain +1 energy.
