How to use salvage kit?

I have not been able to use my salvage kit. The instructions say to double click on the item (e.g., 3 bones), but in what context. Should the item be already picked up or still on the ground? Should the kit be in your inventory, or do you wear it somehow? After the salvage, will the item (3 bones) be listed as its raw material now?

Both items in your inventory.

Double click salvage kit, point to item you want to be salvaged, enjoy the fruits of your labor. The item will be yes, the materials that made the item in the first place. (Ex. Bow = Woodplanks) You can't salvage crafting materials.

#1 You cant salvage bones
#2 Keep it in your inventory and double click it and click on an item, weapon, or something (not crafting materials) to use it.

Salvage kits go in your inventory. You double click the salvage kit then click the item you want to salvage. Bones are a raw material and nothing can be salvaged out of them.

Bones are a common crafting material not raw or rare.
Whats is raw?

Didn`t think of "common crafting material" at the time. Nothing more nothing less.

Also you can't salvage Quest Items

Or Collector weapons.

or green weapons (yes I've tried)

You can't salvage dyes, gold and an Identification kit either
I think I will try to salvage Gwen's tapestry. See what that does.

Also, you can't salvage starter armor.

Also can't salvage ectos and shards, im sure any other rare material you can.

Also, you can't salvage any PCs from your PUGs. Unfortunately.
