Sorrow's Furnace - Waste of Time?
MasterThrawn
So I decide to do SF - had to go through like three groups before I got one that knew what was going on (no surprise there, just a waste of time). I'm going as MM - it probably takes us like an hour and a half to get through all the bosses (even did the forest - wanted Drago's bow) - all this time as MM making Minions, keeping them alive. What was the best thing I got - a purple shield. Sure a few of our group got greens, but 3 out of 5 of us got absolutely nothing worth anything. So basicaly 2 hours. I don't know - really turned me off of going back here. Anyone have any good SF experiences? Maybe I'll try once more, I don't know
Avarre
There are those things called quests, that follow the storyline. Save farming for after all is done.
Empirism
I have some good experiences and many many experiences like yours...currently 23 runs without greens...
quickmonty
Felt the same way after several "farming" runs in SF. Decided to try it again after taking a break from it, this time with MM (first time with MM). Got three out of three drops!

Start playing this game for fun, and not for gold. I play Sorrow's Furnace, and yes, there are ways to get gold way quicklier, but I don't care, at least I'm having fun.
And if gold is the only thing that makes you happy in this game, at least try to understand many people pay for fun, and not for gold. And yes, if you just want gold, Sorrow's Furnace isn't the right place to go to, not anymore, that's for sure.

I actually went the other day and did Alkar's quest with a good group, which is hard to find these days in SF (a good group that wants to do quests instead of farm that is). It was a blast and I picked up a good green in the process.
BloodBrooder
i've been doing the quests in SF since SF came out and lately farming sf because the quests are done and i have never gotten a green item. I've never gotten anything good at all actually. My party members usually get stuff, i know almost each of my guild members had like 4-5 green items each. One even found a sup. Vigor. So i know how you feel. We have been going lately to get some xp for some of the members. But it would be nice after probably about 30-40 runs in the SF to actually get a green item. My fiancee went in the SF to do the quests with the bots and got 2 green items lol and i get enslavement stones with a 5man oro group lol
Alleji
I never liked SF much in the first place. I'm not sure how many farming runs I did - probably no more than a dozen, after completing the quests.
Got a malnion's shield and a razorstone. In addition to a bunch of greens that would sell for 2k on a lucky day. I usually just announced "who wants a galigord's wand?" and dropped it on the ground. If you want gold, you'd be rather farming elona, griffs (at the time) or 2-man UW instead of spamming to sell that thing.

Diablo???
I've still never reached the end of Sorrow's Furnace, every group I ventured in with just wants to farm. I've always wanted to see the big robot.

Actually that's why I decided to go - I do not have a lot of gold, and thought it would be fun to try and get Drago's Flat Bow and maybe a Bortak's set for my Necro. I have completed the game with both chars and done all quests. But - I still do not have some of the weapons I want. Now - I'm not poor (Maybe 100K between both chars), but some of these items are quite expensive still.
I do not enjoy farming, but Tombs is fun with a good B/P group, and UW is fun with a good Trapper or SS build. At least in these places you can get an ecto or two if your lucky... SF - if you don't get a green, you get nothing. Maybe some good Exp. if you need skill points, but that's all I can see.

I have never had a green drop for me. However that is not a big deal for me. I have had people give me some of the ones that they got.
One way to try and make gold in SF is to bring Miners Keys. I got a +30 HP Axe Grip on Monday.

SF farming drop rate is dying dramatically.

I love to go clearing Sorrow's once in a while with friends or henchies. It's fun to do quest still after many months
Garka Dark
Meh, takes me an hour max to clear the whole of SF [all the bosses at least] and I usually get 1 green a run, and if I get nothing the next run or the run after that I always get something good.
Example: 3 runs = Nothing at all. No greens, no golds, no nothing. Next run, no the way I get 3..yes 3 gold unid max armours, one of which is Superior Prot [10K], others were major somethings. Next, we kill Thornbeard..I get Hornbow [5K], Later on we come to Drago...guess what..yes flatbow drops, mine. Easy 50K made in an hour. Just don't expect to get a good drop every time.
PS: I almost always get over 1K in coins, Slave Stones, Manifestos, etc.
EDIT: Just wanted to say I ALWAYS do Oro

Speaking of going to Sorrow Furnace for fun. My guild took us through the Final Assault quest (not the farming part) but actually to complete the last quest. We fought through all the enemies, killed the three rage binders. Than pick off one of the flame thing.

I used to do a lot of SF farming, back when the items were worth something. Now, I solo farm. I don't waste my time with group farming anymore.
Maxiemonster
Seriously, if you don't like farming, but you still farm because you want gold that badly, why do you even play this game? You're suppossed to play games to have fun, not to be rich, so you can brag with your rare items.
Saying SF is a waste of time is absolutly stupid. SF isn't the place to go to when you want gold, but you shouldn't care about gold that much that you actually play this game without having fun just because you want to be rich.

Aren't you the guy who stocked up on 10 trillion candy canes (farmed) just for the prospect to make gold?
SF is/was next to impossible to find groups to do the quests in full - 99% are there to farm, at least on euro servers.

Nope Never stacked more then 250 Canes, and they were all used in a week.. Wish I'd stacked 10 trillion though.
And you can always do this with friends, henchies or solo (which takes long xD).

I was able to get FoW armor because of the oro quest. I started doing oro runs like twice a day to save up for things to buy in factions, but I was getting a good green drop every run, (3 bortak claws, 1 malinon shield, a few razorstones, and a few brohns staffs all in the same week). Before I knew it I had 400k saved up. So instead of saving for factions items I decided to buy FoW armor. SF is all luck.
Phaern Majes
My best run in SF I got 3 green drops using a full party of henchies. One was Brauhn's back when it was high priced. Other two I don't think were great but meh I did get 3 can't complain.
floplag
ive done good (Dragos Flat) and absolutely nothing... its like any other farming run.
but SF and just about everything else in the game have been reduced to only 3 classes allowed these days, so i dont do too many runs as im not a Stance Tank, SS/MM Necro, or Monk

For some people having/getting in-game gold is fun. In fact it's more fun than doing the quests. I've been on both sides of this. I've PvE'd all the quests that I care to do in Prophecies. I've brought three characters through PvE to level 20/ascended. I've finished the game on 2 of those 3. Then I PvP'd like crazy and unlocked absolutely every skill and item/upgrade. Now I farm. Why?
Mainly for the challenge of getting gold and to equip my PvE characters with good stuff. At them moment I've been taking my iNecro out and try to farm odd places to see if it's doable. That's fun and challenging for me.
In short:
Your fun != my fun.

I really like the SF farm runs personally. Though just about an hour ago I did two runs and got a Drago Bow, Gordac Hook Blood, and a Rune of Sup Absorption....
Seriously though, that isn't every run. I have gotten lots and lots of dry runs. My key is to keep a friends list full of names of good players who play around the same times as me. This way when I want to farm I just scan the friends list and throw out a few wispers. Getting a group takes about 5 minutes, we never ever have a wipe (even after ANY member of the team err=7), and we average a FA run in under 15 minutes and a no quest run in about 40. My SF experience didn't start out like this, you have to build up. Any part of the end game is like this really. Either you use your guild or friends list to accelerate your play (HOH is the exact same way). In time you become more competent and things get easier.

It is much more beneficial to do 3 oro runs every second day than do 2 runs every day. It is becouse of antifarming pathc.... I went for oro with 4 guildies, (2 eles, (another was partly healer partly nuker), 1 tank and 1 mm) i as bonder. We managed to do full run and complete quest for my guildies. These guildies are pvp/gvg freaks and they all were first time in sf. Quess what? we got 7 green drops inside. (3 for me).
So called *anti-farm* or *inactivity bonus* appears here also.

When I started farming SF (FA quest), I got ~5 greens for an income of ~100k. It took about 7-10 runs to get that and didn't get anything for the next 5, and I stopped after that. As it seems now, greens (as with most items) are becoming very cheap and very hard to sell. Not worth the time.

Actually, I enjoy myself farming. However, I do solo runs with two guildies sometimes, just because it's more enjoyable (i.e. spideys in fow).
In SF I've only done the quests, but I don't mind making a farming run either, it's basicly the same idea, you go out and kill baddies, you hope for good drops and you have fun with your team while doing so.

SF is more fun than other forms of farming (like the FoW solo thats driving me steadily insane), but a LOT less rewarding. Just depends what you feel like.

SF just isn't worth it. It takes too long to form a group, the group members are usually noobs, and greens aren't dropped that much anyway. Even if you do get a green you have to stand in some town for an hour trying to find someone who is interested in buying your item. It takes way too long to farm SF also. I can remember the days of griffon farming(desert), man that was some serious stuff, but they nerfed it. Just think, soon enough Anet will propbably nerf SF making it totally useless.
Oh, and you should play to have fun and all that other garbage...

Griffo farming was insanely easy (and boring, imo), actually I'm glad they nerfed it, it introduced me to more challenging solo spots, that require a bit more then push my skills in random order and all will work out fine.
As to forming a group to actually quest in SF, a quick "Anybody up for doing some SF quests somewhere today?" in guild chat works for me. If 3 people show up, we just henchy up and go.

I don't know. I would just like to get a green item.. to really just get one. I am not really in it for the money it will bring me. Its the same when i wanted to get my first gold item. I was playing with a group the other day and i asked if we were going to attack one boss and one guy said, nah its item is only worth 20 k.... lol that would be like me winning the lottery in RL. I am sure you guys were excited when you got your first green. Thats pretty much the only reason i try to farm it with my guild.
Pi_Numurian
yeah sometimes that will happen

If you play this game to have fun then nothing is really a waste of time.
