Where does ASCENSION take place?

Everyone is always taking about ascension. Yes, I'm new to the game and I know everyone will tell me just play through and you'll find it.

HOWEVER, I just want to know where it is so that I can know when to look forward to it.

(1)Is it in a certain town or area or (2) does it come as a result of a certain series of quests?

If 1, where is it?

If 2, what is the chain of quests that I need to do to get there?

It is a set of three main missions: Dunes, Elona Reach, Thirsty River,: that you do in the Cyrstal Desert. After missions are complete you have to do one last fight..then you are off to the next area.

Okay. I'm a bit past the Gates of Kryta. I know its far back. What missions do I do to make it to the desert?

If youi are at the Gates of Kryta, you still have a long while to go. Fastest way there is to focus on doing only the Missions.
From Kryta you have Dealssion Seaboard and Divinity Coast, then you Have the Wilds, Bloodstone Fen, somemission I cant remember the name, then Sanctum Cay..then you are off to the desert.

Believe me, you'll know when you hit the desert since it looks...deserty.

Once there, you will have to complete 3 missions....HARD ones mostly....and then defeat your doppelganger. THEN you ascend and move onto the next third of the game.

Do yourself a favor, don't worry about ascending. Enjoy the game. Take your time and do every mission AND side quest. As far as I'm concerned this game was over WAY to soon. Once you ascend, things seem to spped up and the game is over before you know it and then you are stuck with nothing to do (except PvP, which I am not interested in). On top of that, by the time you ascend you don't really gain anything by ascending except a few EXP points. Take your time. Enjoy this game for all its worth.

The chain of 3 missions to prove you're worthy of ascension (Elona Reach, Dunes of Despair and Thirsty River). Then you'll go to Augury Rock, and open the passage to fight the Doppelganger (formally your Image Self -- as in he will use the skill you have in your skill bar). Once you beat it, you'll ascend.

Ascension is just a means to become level 20 if you are not already. In the story it's suppose to "awaken the power within you", so to help beat a special type of monster.

If you're keen on a map, there is an awesome thread put together of flash movies to navigate a complete Tyria map: here. Select Crystal Desert near the bottem; this is where you attempt to ascend. It's south of Ascalon City, but you cannot walk there.

not that it's any of my business how you play the game...but can I ask why you spent 50 bucks to rush yourself through it?

Ascension is more a turning point in the plot. You have to complete three mission then a special mission.

In terms of game mechanic's nothing happens to you character. Again, it's a turning point in the plot where the truth of what's happening is reveled or will be shortly after.

Sit back and enjoy the game, there is no "benefit" to ascending early with your character.

It use to be you were automatically advanced to lvl 20 but that was replaces with a flat 50k xp reward. This was changed in one of the patches.

Alot of people use to rush through for PvP reasons, but now with Faction I don't see a point either.
