How will current lvl 20s be treated in Factions?

I've been looking for an answer to this but haven't found it yet, so forgive me if I've missed it.

I've been wondering how my ascended Prophecies characters will be treated in Factions. I know I can bring them in but at what point in the factions map? At the beginning with lvl 1s? This doesn't seem fair. Or somewhere in the middle like an LA? But now do I still get to do all the Factions quests with my Prophecies characters or just the higher lvl stuff?

Anybody know what they have planned?

Ah, that's what I thought. So it would be best to start a new character in factions for the PvE story line...

Will the assasin and ritualist secondaries be available immediately for prophecy primaries? Or will there be a test(quest) of some sort?

i do not know how it will be implemented but a chat stated the ability to have a change to A/R secondaries and did not seem to indicate a long process.

possibly like secondary change used already?

My first impression, They will be treated like crap.

Already compared to Canthan characters they are worse off in terms of armor. I mean that screenshot of the Canthan warrior armor stats showed an armor with 90 armro and +10 vs physical. Inherently 25 armor better than the Tyrian platemial counterpart.

The way I see it now, and based off how Gaile said she didn't think the Tyrian armors would be getting changes, you either have to go Canthan or go home.

More incentive to buy Factions, which is I assume what Anet was going for, but still right off the bat I have to shovel out some dough to keep my Warrior up to par, or at least to be equal to Canthan PvE Warriors in terms of armor.

I'm sure it's not going to be that bad, but as it stands now Tyrian armor is pretty useless looking at the Canthan armor stats. So I'd say Anet is already sortof shoving the current level 20 characters to the side.

Then again I might just be being grumpy, because I saw the new armor styles and still like the Platemial and Gladiators style better, and am a bit angry that if I don't buy the new Canthan armors for my Warrior I'll be at an obvious disadvantage.

How do I get to Cantha?

Players who own both Factions and Guild Wars can travel by boat between the two continents through Lion's Arch or Kaineng Center.

~This Quote should anwser your question reguarding when, Level, and Skills when going to Factions area with Chapter 1 Characters is in the Quote below.~

Will I be able to take my existing characters in the new areas of the world? Do they keep their items, their levels, etc?

If you purchase Factions, you will be able to travel to the new land, Cantha, with your Ascended characters from Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign). Inventory items, skills, and other possessions and attainments from Guild Wars remain yours and remain useable within Guild Wars Factions.

Thanks but I read the FAQs, maybe I did not clearly state my concerns/questions.

If I assume that Kaineng Center is the LA of Cantha, that would put it in the middle of the story. To bring in a character to that area would be like opening an interactive story (remember those?) in the middle of the book. Although a lot of people said the storyline for Prophecies was weak and predictable, I kinda enjoyed it. Yeah we all knew who the bad guy was way before he showed himself but it was cool saying "There's something fishy with that dude."

I guess I kinda wanted to take some of my first characters through the next chapter from start to finish. But I don't think that would be possible/rewarding. So its not the next chapter for The Serf but a new story for The Serf II.

fortunately no.

it was stated that at least 80% of the content was for level 20.

not the smaller quantity from the slower leveling in chapter 1.

hope this helps

Um... I think you need to verify your data again. Platemail currently offers 85 armor base +10 physical.. Don't really see how this puts you at a disadvantage. I know that one of the new canthan armor sets has like 100 armor or something but also requires 13 strength. So if one chooses to use that armor they will be sacrificing something from tactics or one of he weapon specialities, thereby creating an exploit (in a good way) for warriors that don't use that armor. It still all balances out.

I think you can get your grump gone knowing that.

There is a Canthan armour which is the same as platemail, but with 90 base AL as opposed to the 85 of platemail.

Well for one thing is that when you start with new char in ''Pre-Factions'', it will be lvl20 or at least near to it when you finish the Training area(if devs are to believe in this ).

So I'd imagine the actual story part starts in the seitung harbour where you can come from Lion's Arch with old characters.

Hmm. Well they're they updated the old platemail type armor so that's messed up, but the platemail/dragon class armor was virtually never used in PvP so I guess they wanted to do something to encourage it's use. But then does this mean they'll update the ugly dragon armor for PvP chars to give +90? If not then the whole thing is somewhat strange.

The Canthan armor isn't better. Sentinel armor is superior to Platemail, but oh wait req 13 strength. A trade off. Legionaries gives you armor in a stance COOL BEANS! oh wait...I use like one stance for 13 seconds...useless to me. Ohhh Berserker armor gives me HP, woah wait...that 45 hp really gunna save me?

The armors are NOT better, just different, giving you more selection. Im sure plenty of Factions only players will be crying because they cannot get Gladiator armor.

And Factions monks will be spewing when they learn "Heal Other" is a skill they cannot get (last I checked).

Nothing is more powerful or one sided in Factions, its just different. I mean how fun was it in the PvP events to laugh away as assassins slashed away at a stance tank with glad defence reposte and deadly reposte?

As for Tyrian's getting treated like moon pie in Cantha, not really an option you know someone playing a Tyrian char has them upgraded and knows how to make do with what they have whereas a fresh Canthan trooper is some under equipped guy still learning what the fudgesickle all their skills are.

The disparity between Factions and Proph chars will diminish quickly as Proph chars buy new skills/armor and increase their flexibility while Factions players learn to use their own gear.

Anet doesnt seem to be to be busting balls to get people to buy Factions, its simply giving us some more GW content which we want. Feel free not to buy Factions, your proph skills/armor can still match a factions only player, but with fact. and proph. you have greater flexibility in what you can do.

nope

the devs never even hinted at this.

if they start at 20/close to 20 why have the monestery training/leveling area at all.

they said leveling up would be quicker they did not say it was eliminated at all

I'm sorry I wrote it wrongly, I meant that when you Finish the monastery area you should be around lvl20 already. Sorry about that.

Well you could always run yourself backwards lol But i too want to know how this will play out. And i doubt they will be level 20 when the monastery is completed, they just said faster level gain. But i do have to say what anet has said, this game is coming for the people who are level 20 in prophecies mainly, with the elite missions, alliance related stuff, so we shouldnt miss too much.

I'm hoping they make the enemies lvl outside vary on the ppl's lvl in the group this way your building assassin or ritualist isnt getting really hard lvl24 guys to fight. Or that they stay there incase someone gets a lvl 20 to go kill some lvl 2 for them to bypass some easy mission and get to the good stuff (kinda like how ppl get droks runs)

[SPOILER WARNING - in case anyone here hasn't finished the campaign at least once...]

Well, considering the Prophecies storyline, Lion's Arch is actually a fairly good crossover point - the Prophecies characters have just finished the storyline of resettling the Krytans when they get asked to report to the White Mantle barracks and then get pulled into that story. I can see the same happening with Factions characters visiting Tyria - they get asked to report to the barracks (think of it as the Krytan equivalent of stamping your passport) and while you're there, the White Mantle has a problem it could use a few good men and women for...

Easy transition - the Canthans aren't going to be involved in the battles in Ascalon and the exodus across the Northern Shiverpeaks like a Prophecies character will be, but once they find they've nearly been duped into being accessories to human sacrifice, they may well have the same determination to bring down the Mantle - especially if the Kurzick and/or Luxon refugee camp is still present . There may be some holes, such as the Canthans not knowing who this dead guy that hangs around the Lich is or what's going on with the dwarves, but on the whole there's a fairly seemless transition.

Now, with the storyline of Factions made with transfer of Prophecies characters in mind, I suspect the transition there will be even better - especially since the presence of Prophecies henchmen indicates there'll be at least some means of drawing Tyrian characters into the Factions storyline. Now, it may be that the Factions characters do have a little more background, but I'm confident that the visiting Ascalonians won't feel left out.

Platemail still gives 5 more armour vs all attacks, like elemental, while legionnaires gives extra armour vs only physical.

Read the post.

You people don't seem to understand that I am not talking about legionnaires armour. I'll even dig out a screenshot of it.

Compare and contrast to platemail

It is unquestionably superior to platemail, with no penalty. One is in factions, one is not.
