In this post I would Like to indicate the similarities of certain classes and
magics. Firstly the word magic came from the word magick which came from the word magi which is a plural of magus (a people. The three wise men are said to be of the magi) Magick means "The true science of the magi and all its counterfiets".
Hexes, Necros and mesmers -
Pow-Wow (folk magic) is a system of American folk religion and magic associated with the Pennsylvania Dutch. The tradition is also called hex or hex work, or Speilwerk in Pennsylvania Dutch; its adepts are hexenmeisters. The tradition of Hex signs painted on Pennsylvania barns in some areas originally relates to this tradition, as the symbols were pentagrams thought to have talismanic properties; though many current hex signs are made simply for decoration.
[b]Shamanism and Ritulists[b/] -
Some anthropologists, such as Christine VanPool, define a shaman as an intermediary between the natural and spiritual world, who travels between worlds in a trance state. Once in the spirit world, the shaman would commune with the spirits for assistance in healing, hunting or weather management.
Elementalists and alchemy -
The common perception of alchemists is that they were pseudo-scientists, crackpots and charlatans, who attempted to turn lead into gold, believed that the universe was composed of the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, and spent most of their time concocting miraculous remedies, poisons, and magic potions.
Necromancy a nd...er...Necromacers -
Necromancy is a practice involving the alleged summoning of and conversation with spirits of the dead (necros). This is sometimes done simply to commune with deceased loved ones; it can also be done to gain information from the spirits, as a type of divination; or to command the aid of those spirits in accomplishing some goal, as part of casting a spell.
Illusionary magic and mesmers -
Academic historian Richard Kieckhefer divides the category of spells into psychological magic, which seeks to influence other people's minds to do the magician's will, such as with a love spell, and illusionary magic, which seeks to conjure the manifestation of various wonders. A spell that conjured up a banquet, or that conferred invisibility on the magician, would be examples of illusionary magic. Magic that causes objective physical change, in the manner of a miracle, is not accommodated for in Kieckhefer's categories.
I hope this has helped in some way or another but thanks for reading. If you find something that you think should be added to my post please PM me...
